Lead CNC Programmer - 2nd Shift

GE Vernova•Greenville, SC
•$81,700 - $136,700

About The Position

This is a second-shift Lead CNC Programmer position supporting large-format and advanced machine tools. The role designs, develops, validates, and maintains CNC programs for complex multi-axis machining of high-temperature nickel-based superalloys and other materials. It uses Siemens NX or other CAM software and digital-twin and verification tools such as Vericut and Siemens Run My Virtual Machine. The available equipment includes large VTLs, VBMs, five-axis mills, multi-purpose turn/grind machines, EDM equipment, and custom grinding machines, with some machines up to 2.5 meters. The position develops adaptive probing routines, macro programs, and closed-loop machining processes; supports tooling and fixturing; and creates workstation instructions. It also provides daily programming and troubleshooting support to operators, trains operators during machine startups and process improvements, and works with Manufacturing Engineers and shop-floor teams to commission new or rebuilt machines and prove out first-piece components. The Lead CNC Programmer initiates and leads improvements in safety, quality, cost, and delivery, while communicating effectively and collaborating in a fast-paced, matrixed organization. The role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information; final offers may depend on obtaining government authorization for access, if applicable. U.S. applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States, and employment offers are conditioned on successful completion of a drug screen, as applicable. Relocation assistance is provided. The U.S. pay range is $81,700 to $136,700, with geographic differentials in certain areas; discretionary annual bonus eligibility is available.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, associate degree, or machinist apprenticeship (or similar) graduation, plus 3 years of experience with graphical-based CAM-system CNC programming; alternatively, a high school degree plus 6 years of such experience.
  • Ability to work in the United States legally.
  • Ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information, if applicable to the candidate.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience creating five-axis CNC programs using a CAM system, preferably NX.
  • At least 1 year of experience with high-level machine-tool controls, including subroutines/macros, Renishaw probing routines, variable-based programming, and closed-loop machining.
  • Significant hands-on machinist experience and ability to set up and prove out complex first-piece programs.
  • Experience managing tight tolerances on large-format equipment such as VTLs and VBMs up to 2.5 meters, accounting for part deflection, work hardening, and thermal stability.
  • Extensive experience machining nickel-based superalloys such as Inconel, Rene, and Hastelloy, commonly used in heavy-duty gas turbine or aerospace industries.
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills, with above-average shop math skills in geometry and trigonometry.
  • Experience with Vericut or other CNC verification/machine simulation software.
  • Strong familiarity with multiple machine controls, including Fanuc, Haas, Okuma, and Siemens.
  • Demonstrated proficiency interpreting drawing requirements.
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects concurrently.

Responsibilities

  • Design and optimize efficient CNC programs for complex multi-axis setups machining high-temperature superalloys.
  • Use digital-twin software, including Vericut, to validate code and optimize toolpaths before production.
  • Develop adaptive probing routines, macro programming, and closed-loop machining processes.
  • Partner with Manufacturing Engineers and shop-floor teams to commission new machine tools and establish baseline machining standards.
  • Provide technical mentoring, troubleshoot setups, and prove out first-piece components.
  • Support large VTLs, VBMs, five-axis mills, and multi-purpose turn/grind machines up to 2.5 meters.
  • Generate and maintain CNC programs using NX-CAM or other software for milling, turning, grinding, and/or EDM.
  • Create programs following established standards and qualified machining parameters.
  • Provide CNC support to Manufacturing Engineers and train operators during new or rebuilt machine startups and process improvements.
  • Provide daily CNC programming and troubleshooting support to shop-floor operators.
  • Support and implement tooling and fixturing requirements for CNC machine tools.
  • Generate and support workstation instructions (methods) for CNC-related issues.
  • Initiate and lead process-improvement projects to improve safety, quality, cost, and delivery.
  • Communicate effectively with appropriate team members and work effectively independently and in a team-based, matrixed organization.
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced environment and embrace and drive positive change when appropriate.
