About The Position

This role is for a highly skilled CNC Programmer and Machinist who is the go-to person on the shop floor. The ideal candidate can take a print, program in Mastercam, select tools, set up Haas mills and Okuma lathes, and produce quality parts independently. This position involves owning the entire process, from programming and optimization to hands-on machining, leadership, and contributing to the shop's growth and development.

Requirements

5+ years of CNC machining experience in a job shop or production environment.
Strong Mastercam programming experience (mills and lathes).
Proven experience setting up and running HAAS mills (e.g. VF series) and Okuma lathes.
Real-world experience with setups and tooling selection across different materials and part types.
Ability to read and work from prints and GD&T.
Strong understanding of speeds/feeds, tooling, workholding, and machining best practices.
Hands-on troubleshooting skills.
Desire to lead, teach, and improve the overall skill level of the shop.
U.S. citizenship is required due to contract requirements.

Nice To Haves

Experience helping launch or significantly expand a machine shop.
Familiarity with DNC, tool presetters, probing, and in-machine inspection.
Exposure to lean/5S/continuous improvement.
Experience working within an ERP/MRP system (job routing, tracking, etc.).

Responsibilities

Create and optimize CNC programs in Mastercam for HAAS mills and Okuma lathes.
Choose appropriate tooling, holders, and cutting data.
Design machining strategies, workholding, and process flows for efficiency and repeatability.
Continuously reduce cycle times and improve quality.
Lead complex setups on HAAS mills and Okuma lathes, including fixtures, offsets, and probing.
Prove out first articles, adjust dimensions, and document stable processes.
Troubleshoot machining issues such as chatter, finish problems, tolerance stack-ups, tool wear, and chip control.
Maintain machines, ensuring they are clean, organized, and ready for operation.
Serve as the technical leader for other machinists, providing assistance and guidance.
Train and mentor team members on setups, tool selection, and basic program edits.
Help define standard work, best practices, and safety rules.
Contribute to decisions regarding equipment, tooling, and inspection gear investments.
Provide input on shop layout, workflow, and priorities.
Collaborate with management on scheduling, capacity, and delivery commitments.
Ensure parts meet print specifications and customer requirements in conjunction with Quality.
Create setup sheets, tooling lists, and process notes for team reproducibility.
Assist in root cause analysis for issues and implement corrective actions.
