About The Position

Planned Parenthood Arizona services include an emphasis on family planning and reproductive health care, including the provision of birth control and comprehensive contraceptive counseling, testing and treatment of sexually transmitted infections, pregnancy testing, counseling and referral, HIV testing, annual exams, abortion care and more. The Lead Clinician sets the standard for clinician practice at PPAZ. They provide direct patient care approximately two to three days per week. They provide clinical perspective and are a voice for all family planning providers within the Medical Management Team. They provide proctoring, supervision, and protocol interpretation for the advanced practice licensed staff, assisting the Medical Director in ensuring that quality medical care is delivered consistently and within the medical standards and guidelines of Planned Parenthood Federation of America and PPAZ. The Lead Clinician’s responsibilities are divided between direct patient care, and administrative meetings, quality assurance projects, clinician proctoring and training, and other projects as identified in conjunction with the Medical Director. The Lead Clinician provides excellent customer service to internal and external customers.

Master’s degree and four years of clinical experience as a licensed Nurse Practitioner, Certified Nurse Midwife, Physician Assistant.
Experience in private practice, clinical setting, HMO, or academic medicine is essential.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to read, manipulate and develop fiscal data on tables.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists and time is a factor.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Arizona licensed RN and certified NP with specialty training as an OB/GYN, Women’s Health, Adult, or Family Nurse Practitioner in a Federation approved program; or Physician's Assistant with national certification and approval from the Arizona Joint Board on the Regulation of Physician's Assistant/Board of Medical Examiners to practice in Arizona; or Certified Nurse Midwife with an Arizona license from the Arizona State Board of Nursing.
Must be licensed to practice in the State of Arizona.

Responsibilities

Adheres to affiliate policies on professionalism, wait time in health center and on the phone, and the system for addressing patient complaints.
Participates in health center efforts to achieve established goals for productivity.
Participates in health center/affiliate efforts to achieve established revenue cycle goals.
Provides leadership to PPAZ’s advanced practice licensed staff: Mentors, trains, and evaluates clinical staff in cooperation with the Medical Director.
Creates clinician schedule including approval or denial of PTO and timecards.
Conducts clinical audits and medical skills proficiency appraisal for clinicians as indicated.
Follows up with retraining and/or disciplinary action as indicated.
Supports Center Managers’ evaluations of clinicians and others to achieve adherence to standards, sustained productivity, and customer service standards, and financial solvency of PPAZ
Answers clinical questions related to the medical standards and guidelines,
Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with other providers who constitute our referral network.
Performs appropriate medical screening and procedures including, but not limited to, breast and pelvic examination.
Interprets laboratory data and orders appropriate additional laboratory investigations when indicated.
Provides counsel and advice on family planning methods to patients.
Receives and handles patient questions and problems relating to these methods.
Provides all methods of reversible birth control including, but not limited to, diaphragm fittings, IUC insertions and removals, implant insertion and removal, as well as prescription and dispensing of contraceptive supplies and medications.
Refers patients with abnormal conditions or other medical problems found on the examination to the supervising physician when not covered by standing orders.
Makes and follows up other appropriate medical and social referrals, as indicated.
Liaison with health and welfare agencies, as needed.
Understands and participates in the referral/follow-up process. This includes maintaining adequate documentation of notification and follow up process as specified in the Medical Standards and Guidelines (MS&Gs).
Provides unbiased objective information on abortion, adoption, and parenting as requested by patient.
Provides support and responds to inquiries from abortion patients. This includes screening calls from abortion patients and responding to the needs of the patient.
Assists with training of staff in clinical standards.
Creates and participates in the After Hours Call program.
Demonstrates flexibility and teamwork; understands the interaction between this position and others with whom this position works directly and indirectly.
Assist Medical Director in training Agency RNs, with special attention paid to RNs working in the Resource role in regards to patient care, standing orders, EHR documentation for Family Planning services and In Basket management.
Reports incidents timely, comply with, and analyzes affiliate incident reports, and corrective action plans.
Implement corrective action plans to ensure incident does not repeat again.
Compiles incident reports for clinician and medical director review and analysis no less than monthly.
Examine trends and patterns for corrective action plans, as well as policy and procedure updates.
Act as level 1 reviewer of medical incidents through AIMS system and assist with follow-up of incidents as indicated.
Participates and helps coordinate projects with other interdisciplinary divisions of PPAZ as needed.
Collaborate with other affiliates to ensure the Agency is a highly functioning member of CHN team.
Serves as the affiliate program director for the following services: Breast – Basic Gender-Affirming Hormone Therapy Infertility – Basic Menopause Primary Care – Limited Reproductive Health Conditions Sexual Dysfunction
Clinical oversight of all Nurse Practitioners, Certified Nurse Midwives and Physician Assistants.
Completes other special projects and department deliverables as assigned by members of the senior leadership team.
Works with all departments in a positive, supportive, and collaborative team manner.
Actively participates in the Accreditation process to ensure compliance with Elements of Performance (EOP), medical standards and guidelines (MS&G) and all other state and federal regulations.
Participates in supporting grants and donations to fund services and projects at the affiliate, through work like, but not limited to program narratives, budgets, data queries, analysis, and participation in interviews with grantees and meetings with donors.
Actively participates in training, orientating and cross training co-workers, managers and staff on processes and procedures in compliance with PPAZ standards and guidelines.
