About The Position

WSP is seeking a motivated Lead Civil Engineer – Roadway/Drainage Design for its Georgia Transportation team in the Atlanta, GA office. This role will involve working on a variety of projects for clients such as GDOT, including turn lanes, widening, intersection improvements, bridge replacements, urban interchange reconstructions, and large design-build projects. The candidate will have the opportunity to enhance design and production skills and build relationships within WSP and with clients. Experience in leading the design of highway, roadway geometric design, roadway plan production, drainage design, 2D Hydraulics and Hydrology modeling, MS4 reports, erosion control, and traditional/alternative delivery projects is required. The position may function as the lead engineer for GDOT and other local agency/municipal clients, with responsibilities including project management, contributing to pursuits, client relationship management, design, and QA/QC. This role will be a key contributor in managing the daily activities of the Civil/Highway group.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.
  • 7+ years of experience in large transportation and infrastructure projects.
  • Professional Engineering License in GA or ability to obtain in six months.
  • GSWCC Level II Certification or ability to obtain in six months.
  • Significant experience leading design teams on GDOT and municipal projects (highway, roadway geometric design, roadway plan production, an drainage design).
  • Developing skills in project and staff management experience on civil transportation projects.
  • Experience with daily mentoring of junior staff.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience on Alternative Delivery projects.
  • Experience with large transportation design build projects.
  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering or relevant field.
  • Strong existing relationships and experience with GDOT are beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in leading and continue developing the Civil/Highway design team.
  • Providing guidance and mentoring of staff and direct work assignments.
  • Collaborating with leadership to determine long-range plans and objectives, including recommendations on project staffing.
  • Lead project tasks for conceptual and preliminary engineering and final design activities, as well as development of construction plans, calculations and specifications.
  • Coordinate with other design disciplines such as structures, hydraulics, traffic, and utilities, etc.
  • Participate hands-on in the preparation of Plans, Specifications and Estimates (PS&E).
  • Review, monitor and/or develop complex layouts, sketches, plans, specifications and estimates standards and guidelines, correspondence, and/or prepare reports.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
