About The Position

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is seeking a detail-oriented Lead Cable Technician with a minimum of 5 years of structured cabling experience to join their team. This role involves working independently or as part of a crew to perform various tasks related to cable installation, termination, testing, and documentation. The technician will also be responsible for generating equipment lists, interfacing with customers, and ensuring adherence to industry standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of cabling experience.
  • High School diploma plus advanced training.
  • US Citizenship is required for access to buildings and installations.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a crew under the supervision of a Project Manager and/or Site-Lead.
  • Proficiency in the use of hand tools, including various punch tools, test equipment, and power tools such as hammer drills and saws.
  • Proficiency in the use of various types of copper and fiber cable and termination hardware, as well as termination and testing procedures.
  • Working knowledge of various cable plant configurations such as STAR, BUS, and RING.
  • Working knowledge of various cable plan configurations used to support such networks as ETHERNET, TOKEN-RING, and FDDI.
  • Working knowledge of EIA/TIA requirements such as distance limitations and pin configurations.
  • Capability of reading blueprints and cut-sheets, as well as generating test reports and as-builts.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, work overhead reach for extended periods of time, and work on hands and knees.
  • Ability to communicate well in English both verbally and written.

Nice To Haves

  • BICSI Certifications are a plus but not required.
  • Security Clearance is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Pulling, terminating, and testing copper and fiber cable.
  • Installing cable tray and various other types of cable support hardware.
  • Demonstrating proper procedures for installing, terminating, testing, troubleshooting, and documenting cable plan systems to team members.
  • Generating equipment lists and bills of material for completing tasks.
  • Interfacing with customers on a day-to-day basis and informing the project manager of possible problems or changes to the scope of work.
  • Using hand tools, including various punch tools, test equipment, and various power tools such as hammer drills and saws.
  • Utilizing various types of copper and fiber cable and termination hardware, as well as termination and testing procedures.
  • Applying knowledge of various cable plant configurations (e.g., STAR, BUS, RING) and supporting networks (e.g., ETHERNET, TOKEN RING, FDDI).
  • Adhering to EIA/TIA requirements, including distance limitations and pin configurations.
  • Reading blueprints and cut-sheets, and generating test reports and as-builts.
