About The Position

This role involves leading teams of cable technicians and subcontractors in data center environments, ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and schedule requirements. The position requires strong technical expertise in both Inside Plant (ISP) and Outside Plant (OSP) cabling, including installation, termination, testing, and splicing of copper and fiber. The Lead Cable Technician will also be responsible for documentation, coordination with various stakeholders, and supporting Moves, Adds, and Changes (MACs) in live production environments.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of structured cabling experience in data centers or critical facilities
  • 2+ years in a lead or supervisory role
  • Strong knowledge of ISP and OSP cabling systems
  • Hands‑on experience with fiber splicing, testing, and certification
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and fiber route maps
  • Experience in colocation or hyperscale data center environments
  • Strong leadership, communication, and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Comfortable working on ladders, lifts, and elevated cable trays
  • Ability to work in large‑scale data centers with raised floors and overhead pathways
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends, or after‑hours maintenance windows as required
  • Deep knowledge of data center physical layer architecture and redundancy (A/B paths, diverse routing)
  • Experience with carrier demarcation points, meet‑me rooms (MMRs), and cross‑connects
  • Familiarity with DCIM tools and ticketing/change‑management systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot fiber attenuation, polarity issues, and connector contamination
  • Proven ability to lead crews across multiple projects or shifts
  • Strong task prioritization and time management in fast‑paced environments
  • Effective coordination with PMs, engineers, carriers, and facilities teams
  • Strong attention to detail for labeling, test reporting, and as‑built documentation
  • Experience delivering work packages aligned with SLAs and audit requirements
  • Knowledge of MOPs, SOPs, and data center security protocols
  • Professional, customer‑facing communication skills
  • Ability to explain technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence
  • Experience working under OSHA, NEC, and local code requirements

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise teams of cable technicians and subcontractors.
  • Assign daily tasks, track progress, and ensure work meets safety, quality, and schedule requirements.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for technical issues and troubleshooting.
  • Mentor junior technicians and promote best‑practice installation standards.
  • Install, terminate, label, and test copper and fiber cabling (Cat6/6A, single‑mode & multimode).
  • Build and maintain data center cabling systems, including MDA, HDA, and EDA architectures, overhead ladder rack and underfloor pathways, and cabinets, racks, patch panels, and fiber enclosures.
  • Perform fiber splicing (fusion preferred), testing, and certification (OTDR, power meter).
  • Maintain proper bend radius, cleanliness, labeling, and airflow best practices.
  • Oversee installation and maintenance of OSP fiber systems, including conduit, innerduct, handholes, and vaults, and underground and aerial fiber routes.
  • Coordinate splicing, testing, documentation, and route validation for OSP activities.
  • Interface with customers, carriers, and construction partners during OSP activities.
  • Ensure all work complies with TIA‑942, ANSI/TIA, and BICSI standards, and data center and client‑specific installation guidelines.
  • Enforce safety policies, including PPE, ladder/lift usage, and confined‑space awareness.
  • Conduct quality inspections and correct deficiencies as needed.
  • Maintain accurate as‑built documentation, labeling, and test results.
  • Participate in walk‑throughs, project closeouts, and turnover meetings.
  • Collaborate with project managers, network engineers, data center operations, and customers.
  • Support Moves, Adds, and Changes (MACs) in live production environments.
