About The Position

Chelsea Piers is seeking a Lead Building Engineer to manage the physical plant operations at its iconic sports and entertainment complex. This role offers a unique opportunity for career growth within the facilities organization, focusing on a single site with steady hours and stability. The Lead Building Engineer will work alongside a Building Engineer, both reporting to the Chief Engineer, and will be responsible for day-to-day operations and mechanical issue resolution.

Requirements

• 7+ years of commercial facilities experience.
• Experience maintaining chillers, boilers, cooling towers, air handlers, RTUs, VAV systems, and hydronic heating/cooling.
• Hands-on HVAC diagnostics and performance optimization.
• Proficiency with BAS/BMS controls and preventive maintenance programs.
• Experience maintaining large, occupied facilities.
• Firm understanding of all building systems (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, fire protection, etc.).
• Ability to read technical plans.
• Must have or obtain EPA 608.
• Must have or obtain FDNY Certificates of Fitness (e.g., S12, S13).
• Must have or obtain Certified Pool Operator (CPO).

• Prior supervisory or lead experience preferred.
• Flexible availability, including weekends, holidays, and early/mid/late shifts.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily operations, directing maintenance activity and supervising the Building Engineer's tasks and schedule.
• Oversee principal mechanical systems including HVAC, ice rink chiller plant, pools, ejector pits, elevators, dehumidification systems, walk-ins, steam rooms, and saunas.
• Serve as the first point of contact for mechanical issues during crises, ensuring rapid resolution with minimal disruption.
• Manage MEP vendors and service contracts, overseeing them to budget while ensuring quality.
• Coordinate projects by building and managing task lists, prioritizing work orders with the Chief Engineer.
• Deliver daily activity reports on mechanical issues and operations to the Chief Engineer.
• Conduct regular inspections and drive safety improvements across the facility.
