About The Position

Chelsea Piers is seeking a Lead Building Engineer to manage the physical plant operations at their iconic sports and entertainment complex. This role offers a unique opportunity for career growth within the facilities organization, focusing on a single site with steady hours and stability. The Lead Building Engineer will report to the Chief Engineer and will supervise another Building Engineer, taking charge of daily operations and mechanical issues across the property.

Requirements

• 7+ years of commercial facilities experience including maintenance of chillers, boilers, cooling towers, air handlers, RTUs, VAV systems, hydronic heating/cooling
• Hands-on HVAC diagnostics and performance optimization — you fix it yourself, not just direct others
• Proficiency with BAS/BMS controls and preventive maintenance programs
• Experience maintaining large, occupied facilities
• Firm understanding of all building systems (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, fire protection, etc.) and ability to read technical plans
• Must have or obtain EPA 608, and FDNY Certificates of Fitness (i.e. – S12, S13, etc.), Certified Pool Operator (CPO)

• Prior supervisory or lead experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Lead daily operations — direct maintenance activity across the facility and supervise the Building Engineer's task list and schedule
• Own principal mechanical systems — HVAC, ice rink chiller plant, pools, ejector pits, elevators, dehumidification systems, walk-ins, steam rooms, saunas, etc.
• Be the point person in a crisis — first point of contact for mechanical issues, driving fast resolution with minimal disruption
• Manage vendors and contracts — oversee MEP vendors and service contracts to budget while holding quality
• Coordinate projects — build and manage task lists, working with Chief Engineer to prioritize work orders.
• Report up — deliver daily activity reports on mechanical issues and operations to the Chief Engineer
• Keep it safe and compliant — run regular inspections and drive safety improvements across the facility
