About The Position

Electric Boat is seeking individuals to join their Lead Bonder Department during a period of significant growth. This role offers the opportunity to learn a new trade and build advanced submarines. As a Lead Bonder, you will work with lead and other metals, interpret construction drawings, and perform tasks such as layout, cutting, assembly, and installation of lead panels. This includes caulking panels into place using a pneumatic process. Designated lead workers/heavy metal employees must undergo a yearly physical and blood work, and be capable of becoming and maintaining qualification as a radiation worker. The role requires lifting up to 40 lbs, showering and changing clothes on-site after lead working tasks, and developing a working knowledge of structural fit-up/weld symbols, burning, and grinding operations. Work will be guided by company drawings, test documents, technical manuals, and shipyard procedures.

Requirements

  • High School diploma, GED, or be a current High School Senior, OR have 2+ years of relevant technical experience
  • 0-5 years of experience relevant to this job description
  • CNC operation experience and knowledge
  • Must be able to work all shifts and in all environments as well as Radiological areas of the boat
  • Individuals are required to possess their own basic hand tools
  • Must be able to be a designated lead worker/heavy metal employee (this includes a yearly physical and blood work)
  • Capable of becoming/maintaining qualification as radiation worker

Nice To Haves

  • Vocational, Technical and Community Colleges or Apprentice programs
  • Previous metal fabrication experience
  • Military shipbuilding, manufacturing and automotive industry experience

Responsibilities

  • Interpret construction drawings with basic mathematical ability.
  • Perform layout, cutting, assembly, and installation of lead panels inside of lead bays.
  • Caulk lead panels into place using a pneumatic process.
  • Become and maintain qualification as a radiation worker.
  • Lift up to 40 lbs to support installation and manufacturing tasks.
  • Develop a working knowledge of structural fit-up/weld symbols, burning and grinding operations.
  • Utilize company drawings, test documents, technical manuals, and shipyard procedures for work assignments.
  • Follow all safety procedures, lead compliance plan, and technical work documents.
  • Accept road job assignments.
