About The Position

WHAT YOU DO AT AMD CHANGES EVERYTHING At AMD, our mission is to build great products that accelerate next-generation computing experiences—from AI and data centers, to PCs, gaming and embedded systems. Grounded in a culture of innovation and collaboration, we believe real progress comes from bold ideas, human ingenuity and a shared passion to create something extraordinary. When you join AMD, you’ll discover the real differentiator is our culture. We push the limits of innovation to solve the world’s most important challenges—striving for execution excellence, while being direct, humble, collaborative, and inclusive of diverse perspectives. Join us as we shape the future of AI and beyond. Together, we advance your career. THE ROLE: We are seeking a Senior Board Hardware Debug Engineer to join our Datacenter & AI Board Validation team. In this role you will: Own complex board-level debug for high-performance Datacenter GPU platforms Drive hardware validation from prototype bring-up through production Analyze and optimize board signaling and system-level design for next-generation GPU-based solutions Work at the intersection of cutting-edge GPU solutions, CPUs, memory, networking, and power delivery Lead system-level integration and debug across multi-board, multi-GPU datacenter platforms You will be a key technical leader ensuring our boards and systems meet performance, reliability, and quality targets in demanding Datacenter and AI environments.

Requirements

  • Hands-on: Comfortable in the lab with scopes, analyzers, probes, and soldering tools
  • Deeply passionate about DEBUG and testing: Enjoys chasing down elusive failures and intermittent issues
  • Strong in PCB-level signal integrity: Understands high-speed serial links, impedance, terminations, and layout tradeoffs
  • A problem solver: Able to isolate issues systematically across silicon, firmware, board, and system domains
  • Creative and resourceful: Able to design experiments, work around incomplete specs, and find data-driven solutions
  • You thrive in ambiguity, enjoy complex technical challenges, and take pride in owning issues to closure.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical Engineering or related field, or equivalent practical experience

Nice To Haves

  • Proven experience in Datacenter board design and/or Board Validation for server, accelerator, or networking products
  • Strong background in system-level hardware validation (bring-up, qualification, reliability, and margin verification)
  • Hands-on debug methodologies: fault isolation, boundary scan, probing, rework, A/B comparison.
  • Solid understanding of signal integrity concepts and tools (e.g., high-speed SerDes, DDR, PCIE channel analysis)
  • Working knowledge of computer and I/O protocols, such as PCIe, CXL, DDRx, NVLink, Ethernet, I2C/SMBus, SPI, etc.
  • Strong grasp of system architecture: CPU/GPU/memory hierarchy, power sequencing, reset schemes, clocking architectures
  • Comfortable with lab equipment: high-speed oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, BERTs, VNAs/TDRs
  • Willing and comfortable traveling to support engineering builds, factory ramps, and key debug events (domestic and international, as needed)
  • Self-directed and self-motivated: able to drive tasks with minimal supervision and manage multiple debug threads in parallel

Responsibilities

  • Lead board- and system-level DEBUG of Datacenter GPU platforms (bring-up, stability, performance, interoperability)
  • Develop and execute functional test plans for new boards and system configurations
  • Perform and guide Board Signal Integrity validation: eye diagrams, jitter analysis, margins, channel characterization
  • Lead technical validation efforts across teams, driving validation priorities and test coverage for critical features
  • Champion root-cause analysis and cross-functional debug across silicon design, firmware, BIOS, board design, and manufacturing
  • Collaborate closely with hardware design, layout, SI/PI, firmware, BIOS, and system engineering teams to resolve issues
  • Provide design-for-test and design-for-debug feedback for future board and system designs
  • Document debug findings, create reproducible test cases, and drive corrective actions into design and process
  • Support factory, customer, and field escalations requiring deep hardware debug expertise
