Lead Avionics Technician

Mach Industries•Huntington Beach, CA
•$40 - $52•Onsite

About The Position

Mach Industries is seeking a Lead Avionics Technician to support avionics manufacturing, integration, and testing at its Huntington Beach facility. This hands-on leadership role oversees avionics assembly operations, mentors technicians, drives process improvements, and ensures quality and execution across UAS programs. The technician serves as a technical resource for wiring, electrical integration, troubleshooting, and production readiness while helping scale avionics manufacturing capabilities in a fast-paced environment. The role includes leading daily avionics build, integration, and test activities; fabricating and inspecting wire harnesses; performing and overseeing soldering and electronics rework; troubleshooting electrical and integration issues; and interpreting controlled technical documentation. The Lead Avionics Technician also coordinates across Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain, verifies technician work, maintains configuration and production records, supports production planning, and ensures tools, test assets, safety practices, and workmanship standards are maintained. Applicants must meet U.S. export-control eligibility requirements or be eligible to obtain required authorizations. The position may require access to information controlled under EAR and ITAR; an employment offer may depend on authorization to receive controlled software or technology without sponsorship for an export license. The role requires availability for extended hours and weekends as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years of experience building wire harnesses, avionics assemblies, or electromechanical systems in a manufacturing environment.
  • At least 1 year of experience leading technicians, coordinating work, or serving as a technical lead.
  • Strong experience using electronic test equipment, including DMMs, oscilloscopes, power supplies, DAQ systems, and test fixtures.
  • Working knowledge of electronics theory, avionics systems, electrical troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings.
  • Experience working in a quality-controlled manufacturing environment with strong documentation discipline.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and thrive in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Availability to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
  • Must meet the stated U.S. Government export-regulation eligibility requirements or be eligible to obtain required authorizations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in aerospace, defense, UAV/UAS, robotics, or avionics manufacturing.
  • Experience supporting prototype development and transitioning products into production.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing execution systems (MES), ERP systems, and configuration management practices.
  • Experience developing work instructions, training technicians, and implementing process improvements.
  • FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certification or military avionics experience.
  • Experience integrating flight-critical avionics, communications systems, sensors, or mission systems into aerospace platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily avionics build, integration, and test activities and provide technical guidance to avionics technicians.
  • Fabricate and inspect complex wire harnesses, including cutting, stripping, crimping, terminating, labeling, and lacing or overbraiding as required, to aerospace workmanship standards.
  • Perform and oversee soldering, rework, and repair of electronic assemblies, PCBAs, and connector terminations.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, avionics, and integration issues, and drive root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Read, interpret, and execute controlled schematics, engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and work instructions.
  • Coordinate with Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain to resolve production challenges and improve build efficiency.
  • Verify technician work, conduct in-process inspections, and ensure compliance with quality standards and revision-controlled documentation.
  • Flash, configure, and validate avionics software and firmware; document results and maintain configuration control.
  • Assemble, integrate, troubleshoot, and repair avionics systems, flight hardware, and related electromechanical assemblies.
  • Perform and oversee electrical and functional testing, including continuity, insulation resistance, power-up verification, and system-level functional checks.
  • Support production planning, material readiness, and workload prioritization to meet manufacturing schedules.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, throughput, tooling, and process standardization.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and test assets, including calibration status and preventative maintenance requirements.
  • Promote and enforce 5S, ESD, safety, and workmanship standards, and accurately complete MES records and work order documentation.
