Compass GroupLos Angeles, CA
$100,000 - $115,000Remote

About The Position

Waveguide is seeking passionate, creative thinkers for an immediate opening as a lead construction consultant in the Los Angeles Metro. This full-time position is anticipated to be remote, with regular travel to project sites and client locations serving several projects in Southern California and some requiring regional and domestic U.S. travel. The lead construction consultant is accountable for the successful delivery of technology consulting projects during the contract administration phase, leading engagements with minimal oversight. This role verifies that infrastructure, audiovisual systems, and structured cabling installations align with contract documents, design intent, and industry standards. Serving as a link between design and field execution, the construction consultant leads site observation, validation, and commissioning activities; coordinates with AV integrators and contractors; and oversees RFI and submittal workflows to resolve issues early and reduce delivery risk. In addition to project delivery, the role contributes to the development and improvement of internal construction‑phase processes and provides guidance and mentorship to less‑experienced team members. Through disciplined oversight, clear communication, and a hospitality‑forward approach, the role ensures systems are technically sound, operationally ready, and aligned with client expectations.

Requirements

  • 6 to 8 years of relevant professional experience managing professional AV/IT projects, preferably as an independent consultant
  • Four-year or higher degree in a relevant technical field (BSEE)
  • AVIXA Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) professional certification, CTS-I preferred
  • Demonstrated construction-phase technology consulting experience, including RFI responses, site observations, field issue identification, contract administration, and clear documentation such as observation and commissioning reports, issue logs, and test results.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute audiovisual system test plans, commission performance, and resolve field issues while balancing design intent, constructability, schedule, and client expectations.
  • Experience overseeing AV integrators and specialty contractors, reviewing installation quality, managing punch lists, and coordinating during testing and turnover, with strong knowledge of industry standards and best practices (AVIXA, BICSI, TIA, manufacturer guidelines).
  • Comfort operating in client-facing construction and commissioning environments, delivering technical guidance with professionalism, confidence, and a hospitality-forward mindset.
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in all MS Office applications
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Suite, Bluebeam, and relevant AI tools.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematics in a business environment
  • Strong understanding of commercial/institutional technology applications and operations and their integration within building design and construction environments, including audio systems, video display technology, unified communications, digital signage, networked signal distribution, complex automation and control, and typical building systems such as HVAC, electrical, lighting, building controls, and security.
  • Commitment to relevant ongoing professional development and technical training
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deliverables and shift priorities as necessary
  • Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in written form
  • Ability to absorb and understand written business communication and respond professionally and hospitably in every situation
