About The Position

The Lead Auditor for Health, Safety, and Environment plays a critical role in protecting Lilly employees, contractors, and the environment by leading comprehensive HSE audits for conformance to compliance and Lilly Standards requirements across our global operations (Manufacturing, Research and Development, Sales and Administrative). As a key member of the HSE Audit Services team, you will assess regulatory and Lilly standards compliance, evaluate HSE management system effectiveness, and drive continuous improvement initiatives that support Lilly's mission to achieve an injury-free workplace and minimize environmental impact. The Global Health Safety and Environment (GHSE) department serves as Lilly's center of excellence for HSE standards, audits, and operational guidance. With headquarters at the Lilly Corporate Center and regional support in Europe, our team combines high-quality counsel with decades of practical experience across diverse industries. We partner with business areas worldwide to manage HSE programs effectively, meet critical compliance obligations, and achieve improved control of workplace hazards and environmental risks. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in health or safety field, physical sciences, engineering, or environmental management
  • Minimum of 7 years of HSE experience, including participation in health and safety, Process Safety Management (PSM), and/or environmental audits
  • Ability to travel up to 50% domestically and internationally to execute HSE audits and attend professional conferences
  • Qualified applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Lilly will not provide support for or sponsor work authorization or visas for this role, including but not limited to F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, F-1 STEM OPT, J-1, H-1B, TN, O-1, E-3, H-1B1, or L-1.

Nice To Haves

  • Extensive knowledge of health and safety or environmental regulatory requirements across multiple jurisdictions
  • Professional HSE certification (CSP, CPEA, CPSA, PE, ISO 14000, or CIH)
  • Proven ability to work independently, including planning and organizing complex project work with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated excellence in cross-functional collaboration and ability to maintain productive partnerships with diverse business stakeholders
  • Superior communication skills with ability to effectively and tactfully deliver constructive feedback and technical information to audiences ranging from operations personnel to senior executives
  • Proficiency with enterprise software platforms including Veeva, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute team-based HSE audits to assess compliance with local HSE regulations, Lilly Global and divisional standards, and HSE Management System effectiveness
  • Develop audit capabilities by engaging and training audit team members, fostering skill development, and continuously improving audit methodologies
  • Communicate audit findings effectively through comprehensive written reports and oral presentations to senior management, delivered within established timelines
  • Drive program improvement by participating in and leading initiatives to enhance the GHSE audit program's effectiveness and value
  • Support strategic assessments including third-party contract manufacturing audits, new acquisition due diligence, and other review activities as business needs require
  • Drive continuous improvement through evaluation of trends or themes across audits, information and best practice sharing, and contributing to or leading technical forums
