About The Position

This position is for a Lead Assistant Golf Professional at Desert Highlands Golf Club/Association, a premier private residential golf community in Scottsdale, Arizona. The role focuses on creating an exceptional golf experience by serving as an experienced Assistant Professional, taking ownership of golf events, daily golf operations, and contributing to retail operations. The employee represents the Club to members and prospective members, embodying the Club's mission of providing exceptional experiences that instill pride in the community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or three to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Class A Membership in the PGA of LPGA
  • Knowledge and understanding of typical golf course procedures.
  • Age 21
  • Valid Driver’s License with a clean Motor Vehicle Record.
  • Reliable and predictable attendance.
  • Present a positive, professional image, clean and neat appearance.
  • Must be self-motivated and customer service oriented.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions; skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
  • May require CPR/First Aid and AED certification; training will be provided by Desert Highlands.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing the daily tee sheet and communicate with outside operations, starter, directional and player assistant of all changes.
  • Assist membership in booking tee times through Club Essentials.
  • Manage all aspects of directional when working in directional station, ensuring groups arrive on time for their tee times.
  • Manage the first tee when starting, recording starting times, transportation choices, and cart numbers.
  • Make groups aware of the standard of play policy and manage the golf course for the enjoyment of all when working a player assistant shift.
  • Greet all groups on the golf course and keep detailed documentation of pace of play issues, informing the Director of Golf of any issues that negatively impacted play.
  • Assist in the management of golf shop supplies, maintaining and stocking inventory of daily operation supplies.
  • Take precise and thorough phone messages and answer the phone to proper standards.
  • Work with the Buyer in maintaining a neat and organized floor area, assisting in special ordering and shipment receiving.
  • Assist with monthly inventory of all merchandise, folding and hanging apparel and refreshing displays.
  • Take ownership of all aspects of tournament operations including scoreboards, cart tags, proximities, staging area set-up and billing charging.
  • Check to make sure tournament winners are properly entered into the credit book with correct dates and description of event.
  • Make proper copies of tournament results and enter into the correct files, managing assigned tournaments and events.
  • Develop a break-even Profit and Loss for events and market the event ahead of time.
  • Ensure tee sheets are properly set up for the event and all jobs are assigned to staff for the event.
  • Daily check all handicap computers to confirm their operational status, receive all information, and update course rating material.
  • Keep accurate records of all additions and deletions to the handicap system and charge/credit accordingly.
  • Maintain complete knowledge of the handicapping system and all pertinent handicap information.
  • Maintain and inventory all stock items necessary for in-house club repair work.
  • Document and keep accurate records of all in-house and out-of-house club repair work, updating all charges and credits.
  • Keep the club repair area neat, clean, and organized at all times.
  • Assist in all daily scheduling of lessons for all teaching assistants and assist the Director of Instruction when needed.
  • Restrict lesson time to times not scheduled for golf shop duty and keep updated on times needed for clinics and group lessons.
  • Ensure proper club fittings for Members.
  • Assume responsibilities of Head Golf Professional in his/her absence.
  • Maintain playing ability and work to stay competent in all areas of your golf game, restricting practice times for all times not scheduled for shop duty.
  • Be prepared to fill in at all times in any capacity within the golf operations.
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe working environment, with continual emphasis on promoting employee health and safety.
  • Assists in training colleagues in proper safety techniques.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
