About The Position

Caterpillar's Cat Digital is seeking a Lead Angular Developer to lead the design and development of next-generation, tablet-first applications for enabling and visualizing autonomous systems. The role provides technical leadership across teams, shaping scalable frontend architecture and delivering intuitive, high-performance user experiences. It operates at the intersection of real-time systems, interactive visualization, and industrial autonomy, using modern web and hybrid mobile technologies for field applications, including integration with platforms such as NVIDIA Omniverse for digital twin and 3D visualization experiences. The Lead Angular Developer will define frontend architecture and engineering standards, build responsive applications, and guide implementation across teams. The position collaborates with product, UX, backend, and AI/robotics teams, and promotes quality through automated testing, CI/CD, observability, and AI-assisted engineering practices. The position is onsite five days per week in Chicago, Illinois; Peoria, Illinois; Dallas, Texas; or Denver, Colorado, and requires up to 5–10% travel. Domestic relocation assistance and visa sponsorship are not available.

Requirements

Knowledge of software integration processes and functions, with the ability to design, develop, and maintain interfaces and links to alternative platforms and software packages.
Knowledge of software product design and the ability to convert market requirements into software product design.
Knowledge of technical aspects of software products and the ability to design, configure, and integrate them.
Knowledge of software product testing and the ability to design, plan, and execute testing strategies to ensure product quality and adherence to requirements.

Nice To Haves

Experience in software engineering, with strong expertise in frontend architecture.
Experience leading a team of engineers.
Strong experience with Angular, RxJS, and state management such as NgRx or similar.
Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and modern frontend design patterns.
Hands-on experience building hybrid mobile applications using Ionic and Capacitor.
Experience optimizing performance for mobile and tablet environments.
Experience integrating real-time data systems, including WebSockets and event-driven architectures.
Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP and backend systems such as Node.js.
Hands-on experience using AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor, or similar in production delivery, including agentic workflows and tool/MCP integrations.
Experience with Spec-Driven Development or equivalent spec-first methodologies pairing executable specifications with AI-generated implementations.

Responsibilities

Own and define frontend architecture across teams, including UI frameworks, state management, and application structure.
Design and deliver tablet-first applications using Angular and Ionic/Capacitor, supporting mobile and console-like environments.
Build interactive, real-time user interfaces that visualize and control autonomous systems using live data and AI-driven outputs.
Optimize performance for responsive, low-latency behavior on constrained devices such as tablets and mobile devices.
Establish engineering standards, reusable components, and best practices for long-term scalability.
Lead technical design reviews, guide implementation, and mentor engineers across teams.
Collaborate with product, UX, backend, and AI/robotics teams to deliver integrated solutions.
Ensure quality through automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and application observability.
Drive AI-augmented delivery using Spec-Driven Development and coding assistants such as Claude Code to accelerate design, implementation, review, and testing while maintaining engineering rigor.
Establish team practices, guardrails, and quality gates for AI-assisted engineering, including prompt/spec patterns, review workflows, and verification standards for AI-generated code.
