Lead Analytics Engineer

Vasion•St. George, UT

About The Position

Vasion is seeking a Lead Analytics Engineer to serve as the primary technical architect of its data platform. This is a high-ownership, hands-on role responsible for designing and governing the systems that power analytics, from data ingestion and transformation through the semantic layer used by reporting and downstream tools. The role also owns project prioritization for the Analytics Engineering team, leads AI-powered analytics initiatives, and provides technical mentorship to 1–2 Analytics Engineers. It does not carry formal people-management responsibilities. The Lead Analytics Engineer owns the Snowflake data warehouse and ELT pipelines, leads dbt development and governance, and establishes standards for data modeling, pipeline design, testing, documentation, and data quality. The role manages the Analytics Engineering roadmap and coordinates priorities with the BI Manager and stakeholders. It also advances Vasion’s analytics AI strategy by evaluating and implementing tools and workflows, and supports data trust through lineage, definitions, ownership, and collaboration with data consumers.

  • Expert-level SQL skills and strong data modeling skills, such as Kimball, OBT, or similar.
  • Deep hands-on experience with dbt Core or dbt Cloud in a production environment.
  • Strong Snowflake expertise, including warehouse configuration, query optimization, cost controls, and RBAC.
  • Experience managing ELT pipelines with tools such as Airbyte or Fivetran.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize a project backlog while balancing technical debt with new feature delivery.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to align stakeholders and keep projects moving.
  • Experience deploying agentic AI tools and building infrastructure to deliver consistent metrics using AI platforms such as Cortex or Claude.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with LLMs, AI-assisted tooling, or ML pipelines in an analytics context.
  • Familiarity with Domo or similar BI platforms from a data-delivery perspective.
  • Experience with data governance frameworks and metadata/catalog tooling.
  • Python proficiency for pipeline or transformation work.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary architect of the Snowflake data warehouse, including schema design, performance optimization, and cost management.
  • Own and maintain ELT pipelines through Airbyte Cloud and Fivetran to ensure reliable, timely data delivery.
  • Design and maintain the semantic layer and metric definitions used by AI agents, visualization tools, and other downstream systems.
  • Establish and enforce standards for data modeling, pipeline design, testing, and documentation.
  • Lead the design and development of dbt models, tests, and documentation in production.
  • Define dbt best practices for project structure, naming conventions, and incremental strategies.
  • Own dbt DAG health, model performance, and overall project quality.
  • Own the Analytics Engineering roadmap, track work, manage priorities, and align delivery with business needs.
  • Partner with the BI Manager and stakeholders to triage incoming requests and sequence work.
  • Facilitate sprint planning and backlog grooming to keep the team focused and unblocked.
  • Communicate project status, risks, and timelines to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Lead Vasion’s analytics AI strategy by identifying, evaluating, and implementing AI tools and workflows that enhance data delivery and insights.
  • Explore and prototype LLMs and AI-assisted tooling in the data stack, including natural-language querying, AI-assisted dbt development, and anomaly detection.
  • Promote AI curiosity within the BI and Analytics Engineering team and bring practical recommendations on emerging AI/ML capabilities.
  • Implement and maintain data quality frameworks and alerting across the data stack.
  • Document data lineage, definitions, and ownership in a centralized catalog.
  • Partner with data consumers to build and maintain trust in the data.
  • Guide and mentor 1–2 Analytics Engineers through code reviews, pairing, and technical feedback.
