About The Position

National Grid is seeking a Lead Data Trust & Governance Specialist to establish and grow a practical, business-focused Data Governance program for New England Electric. Building on enterprise standards, existing Chief Data Office direction, and lessons learned from New York Electric partners, this role will translate governance into business value by improving data quality, clarifying ownership, reducing friction for business users, and ensuring critical data is trusted, understood, and fit for purpose. The role will partner across business, data, and technology teams to strengthen decision-making, improve operational and regulatory confidence, and enable future data, analytics, and AI capabilities. This is a hands-on role for someone who can turn standards in action – building relationships, solving data problems, and driving measurable outcomes, not simply creating policies and processes. The ideal candidate is a relationship-oriented problem solver who can work across business and technology teams, translate standards into practical action, and make data governance feel useful rather than burdensome. They are comfortable operating in ambiguity, influencing without direct authority, and balancing enterprise consistency with the day-to-day needs of business stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in data, business, technology, or engineering fields required.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant business experience, working with, or within, a data-minded role or a utility company required.
  • Experience with Data Management concepts (governance, enablement, quality) and tools (Snowflake, Informatica, Power BI, SQL) required.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), with the ability to deliver complex content concisely and effectively

Responsibilities

  • Assess and “pitch” the NE Electric Data Trust Program
  • Identify, assess and prioritize existing problems with data completeness, accuracy, timeliness and quality
  • Create a compelling pitch for right sized data governance that clearly articulates gaps or problems that can be solved by data governance
  • Build the NE Electric Data Trust Program
  • Establish practical governance standards, operating routines, and engagement models aligned to enterprise direction.
  • Partner with business leaders to define ownership, stewardship, and accountability for priority data domains.
  • Build strong relationships across business, data, technology, Chief Data Office, and New York Electric teams to drive adoption and consistency.
  • Create a governance approach that is easy for stakeholders to use and focused on business outcomes, not bureaucracy.
  • Improve Data Trust and Quality
  • Identify and prioritize critical data quality issues impacting operations, analytics, reporting, and decision-making.
  • Partner with data owners and SMEs to resolve root causes and prevent recurring issues. This can include ensuring others act on “bad data” or driving the improvement actions directly.
  • Define practical quality measures, controls, and improvement plans for high-value data.
  • Drive measurable improvements in the trustworthiness, completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of critical data.
  • Make Data Easier to Use
  • Improve how users discover, understand, and access trusted data.
  • Promote common business definitions, metadata, lineage, and documentation for priority data sets.
  • Reduce ambiguity and improve transparency around data sources and quality.
  • Advocate for the needs of business users and ensure governance enables, rather than slows down, data consumption.
  • Drive IT changes where needed to fix data at the source and to implement data quality controls
  • Enable Strategic Business Outcomes
  • Ensure data, analytics, digital, and Artificial Intelligence initiatives are built on trusted, governed data from the start.
  • Assess data risks, dependencies, and readiness for new capabilities.
  • Help teams move faster by creating repeatable, scalable practices for managing critical data.
  • Communicate the business value delivered through improved data quality, trust, and stewardship.
