About The Position

The After-school Teacher works to support the mission of the school and provides extended care to HVWS early childhood and grade school students outside of regular school hours. This role requires a minimum of 3 years of experience working with early childhood children, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues. The teacher will foster a loving, secure, and supportive environment, manage program needs, and implement an afternoon rhythm. Responsibilities include leading activities, ensuring a clean environment, coordinating with parents, and communicating with school staff. The position also involves a commitment to continuing education in Waldorf pedagogy and participation in professional development activities.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with early childhood children
  • Work well with the parents, provide parent education on Waldorf education and create a healthy class community.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work supportively and in collaboration with colleagues.
  • Ability to promote the school and its mission effectively.
  • Experience in a Waldorf setting and knowledge of Waldorf pedagogy.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise children in the extended care program at all times.
  • Provide a loving, secure and supportive mood for the children.
  • Create reverence and the right inner and outer gestures for the children to imitate.
  • Manage extended care program needs including supplies and budget.
  • Work with the other After-school Teachers to implement an afternoon and late afternoon rhythm.
  • Lead with appropriate verses for gratitude towards snack, games, and engaging activities.
  • Set out children’s lunches to encourage gratitude for the meal.
  • Provide a healthy afternoon snack.
  • Create a supportive mood for the grade school students to do homework.
  • Create a supportive mood for early childhood children to rest.
  • Work with the children to foster a clean and tidy environment in the classroom, ensuring the facility is left ready for the morning program to begin the following day.
  • Ensure a smooth transition from afternoon care to the late care program.
  • Coordinate with parents to ensure smooth pick-up procedures.
  • Limit cell phone usage to emergency purposes only.
  • Communicate questions, concerns, and observations to fellow extended care teacher(s) and/or class teachers as well as the Executive Director.
  • Commit to continuing education by attending lectures, workshops, conferences to deepen one’s understanding of Waldorf pedagogy when possible.
  • Participate in peer review, self-evaluations, and mentoring as listed in employment contract.
