About The Position
Under the supervision of the School Age Childcare Coordinator, the Afterschool Lead Counselor provides direction for the program and classroom, and implements program curriculum. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring, while putting the quality and safety of our program at the utmost of importance.
Requirements
- Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state law
- CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
- Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
- Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
Nice To Haves
- Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
- Previous experience with diverse populations.
Responsibilities
- Operates in ratio of age group assigned and fulfills all of the responsibilities of a counselor plus:
- Leading Rides in &/or Rides out if coordinator is pulled from that duty.
- Helps lead weekly staff meetings and trainings
- Helps plan components of afterschool.
- Is a role model for Y policies and practices.
- Helps perform specific duties such as securing student medication as needed
- Helps make weekly staff schedules.
- Plan and create weekly specific group schedules
- Performs head counts regularly
- Creates Newsletters for parent interaction
- Reports and records all behavioral and accident reports
- Communicate with parents regarding reports, announcements, financial invoices, etc.
