About The Position

This position involves attending to and caring for hens, inspecting eggs for quality and fitness for incubation. The role requires adherence to biosecurity and animal welfare guidelines, including showering and changing clothing before entering the facility. The work environment can be wet, slippery, hot, dry, dusty, and cold, with heavy exposure to corn and soy dust. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required, and the use of certain chemicals is common. The company offers a comprehensive benefits package and opportunities for growth.

Requirements

  • Must have at least six consecutive months of work experience with the same employer and no additional gaps in employment greater than six months with the last 36 months.
  • If applicant was laid-off, providing eldercare or childcare, the six month gap will be increased to 18 months.
  • Previous work history criteria will not apply to applicants who have been full time students consecutively for the last 36 months.
  • Applicants must reside in the United States to be considered for an interview.
  • Must use safe lifting techniques.
  • Must regularly lift up to 30 pounds.
  • May be required to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must regularly push or pull up to 500 pounds.
  • Regularly required to stand (concrete floor); walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk or hear.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Requires use of hand tools such as box knives wire cutters, pliers, wrenches, broom, squeegee, shovel, counter, vaccination gun, stick needle, eye drop bottle, animal tag pliers; power tools such as cordless drill, gas powered back-pack blower; equipment such as dump truck, skid-steer, tractor, trailer with gas-powered sprayer, pallet jack, lawn mover and weed-eater, catch-frames, scales, tables, scanners, extension cords, coops; safe operation of vehicle to and from work area.
  • Required to work on wet, slippery surfaces and also in hot, dry, dusty, wet and cold environments.
  • Heavy exposure to corn and soy dust.
  • Safety glasses, Safety goggles, face shield, chemical gloves, waterproof apron, ear plugs and rubber boots are required.
  • NIOSH approved N95 particulate respirators will be worn as needed.
  • TM is expected to follow all applicable safety policies and procedures. These include but are not limited to Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, LOTO and Personal Protective Equipment.
  • TM is expected to identify, address and mitigate safety related risks.
  • Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.).
  • Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.

  • Previous agricultural or production experience will be considered preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Feeds and waters birds according to schedules.
  • Cleans and disinfects waterers and pens and performs routine housekeeping duties.
  • Examines birds for signs of illness and treats them according to instructions.
  • Adjusts controls to regulate temperature and humidity of the poultry house.
  • Records information such as egg numbers, bird weight, medications, feed intake, and mortality.
  • Weighs flock to monitor growth.
  • Collects eggs, observes shell color and texture, and size of egg.
  • Places dirty or cracked eggs in paper flats.
  • Marks eggs for line and source identification while putting eggs in plastic hatchery flats.
  • Records and disposes of substandard eggs as instructed.
  • Packs identified eggs in plastic hatchery flats and places these flats in buggies.
  • Performs routine quality assurance procedures to monitor egg quality and feed room sanitation.
  • Disposes of dead birds as instructed.
  • Places birds in designated pens per housing instructions.
  • Loads birds for processing.
  • Performs sample testing on birds.
  • Provides general farm labor to clean, disinfect and prepare housing for flock placement.
  • Observes biosecurity procedures and performs steps necessary to maintain biosecurity (maintain foot baths, restrict outside traffic, etc.).
  • Follows normal, routine safety procedures and policies and insures that other employees do so.
  • Clean office and breakroom area and complete laundry duties.
