About The Position

Cobb is seeking a Laying House Worker to attend to and care for hens and roosters, and inspect eggs for quality and fitness for incubation. This role involves a variety of duties including feeding, watering, and weighing birds according to schedules, as well as extensive cleaning and disinfection of waterers, nest pads, walls, ceilings, and the egg room. The worker will be responsible for recording detailed information such as egg numbers, bird weight, medications, feed intake, and mortality, and observing/grading egg quality according to Cobb standards. A significant portion of the role involves picking up eggs from the floor and recording the number of eggs laid by each hen. Additional responsibilities may include inspecting poultry for diseases, removing weak, ill, or injured birds, monitoring feed, water, lighting, and ventilation systems, performing sanitation tasks for breakrooms and vehicles, house set-up for new birds, and properly euthanizing weak, ill, or injured birds in accordance with company policy. The position requires strict adherence to biosecurity and animal welfare requirements, including showering and changing clothes before entering the facility, and avoiding contact with other avian species. Cobb offers a comprehensive benefits package, eligible from day one of full-time employment, and competitive pay starting at $18.00 per hour, plus additional shift differential for evenings, nights, and weekends.

Requirements

  • Must have at least 6 months of consecutive work history with one employer and no additional job gaps in employment greater than 6 months in the past 36 months (employment gap increased to 18 months if laid off or providing child or elder care).
  • Previous work history requirement will not apply to applicants who have been full-time students consecutively for the last 36 months.
  • Rehire criteria is a minimum waiting period of 180 days.
  • Rehire rule of no more than 3 times worked at Cobb/Tyson Foods.
  • Must reside in the United States to be considered for an interview.
  • Willingness to shower, change clothing and footwear before entering the biosecure facility.
  • No jewelry (except medical ID and body piercings covered by appropriate clothing) may be worn on the jobsite.
  • Willingness to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.).
  • Willingness to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Expected to follow all applicable safety policies and procedures (Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, LOTO, Personal Protective Equipment).
  • Expected to identify, address, and mitigate safety-related risks.

Responsibilities

  • Feed, water, and weigh birds according to schedules.
  • Clean and disinfect waterers, change and clean nest pads, dust nests, clean walls and ceilings, maintain egg room cleanliness, and add/change shavings.
  • Record information such as egg numbers (hen number on egg), bird weight, medications, feed intake, and mortality.
  • Observe, grade, and record egg quality, and distribute or dispose of eggs according to Cobb standards.
  • Pick up eggs from the floor and record the number of eggs laid by each hen.
  • Inspect poultry for diseases, remove weak, ill, or injured birds, and remove dead poultry flock.
  • Monitor feed, water, lighting, and ventilation systems.
  • Perform sanitation of breakroom and vehicles.
  • Set up houses for new birds via checking water/feed lines and light set-up.
  • Properly euthanize weak, ill, or injured birds in accordance with company policy.
