About The Position

Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy is seeking a motivated and dependable Lawn and Tree Care Technician to join the Horticulture and Forestry team. This field-based position is primarily responsible for supporting the care and maintenance of park trees in multiple parks throughout the City of Pittsburgh, with an additional focus on maintaining the Arthur D. Hellman Lawn and landscape areas at Schenley Plaza. This role requires outdoor work in varying weather conditions and involves physical labor, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to safety and stewardship. Work priorities may shift based on seasonal needs, weather conditions, and operational priorities. This position is scheduled for 24 hours per week, typically consisting of three (3) eight-hour shifts per week. The pay for this position is $18/HR. The anticipated start date is May 18, 2026. This is a temporary seasonal position expected to continue through October 30, 2026, subject to funding, weather, and organizational needs. This position is not eligible for employee benefits except where required by law.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in landscaping, horticulture, forestry, arboriculture, lawn care, parks maintenance, or related outdoor work.
  • Knowledge of tree care and turf management best practices.
  • Experience working in a public-facing environment.
  • First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain certification upon hire (training may be provided).

Responsibilities

  • Perform arboricultural maintenance tasks including watering, mulching, staking support, and upkeep of tree protection materials.
  • Perform lawn care duties including watering, fertilizing, dethatching, aerating, edging, string trimming, and irrigation system upkeep.
  • Perform hardscape and site maintenance including litter removal, leaf blowing, and general cleanliness of work areas.
  • Support volunteer stewardship events and community workdays as assigned.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Represent the Conservancy professionally when interacting with city departments, community groups, partner organizations, volunteers, and park users.
  • Follow all organizational safety practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
