About The Position
The Bronx District Attorney's Office is offering a Summer Legal Internship Program designed to help law students transition from academic learning to practical experience. This nine-week, full-time, in-person program aims to inspire the next generation of prosecutors, advocates, and public service leaders by providing mentorship, training, and hands-on opportunities. Interns will gain exposure to public service realities, develop professional skills, and build judgment and leadership qualities. The program emphasizes "Pursuing Justice with Integrity" and strengthening community trust while serving over 1.4 million residents. Interns will learn from experienced prosecutors and legal professionals dedicated to advancing justice in the Bronx.
Requirements
- Current Law Student: 2L-JD class of 2028
- Completion of a Criminal Law class
- Demonstrated interest in public service, criminal law, and litigation
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information
- Must be able to commit to the entire nine-week internship program
- Selected candidates will have to pass a background check and complete onboarding before the start of the internship

Responsibilities
- Observe court proceedings, hearings, and trials.
- Conduct legal research and drafting assignments.
- Assist attorneys with case preparation and litigation support.
- Participate in training programs, lectures, and professional development workshops.
- Engage in simulation exercises designed to strengthen advocacy and litigation skills.
- Network with attorneys, executive leadership, and criminal justice professionals.
- Gain insight into the responsibilities and ethical obligations of public service attorneys.
- Assist attorneys with legal research, case preparation, witness interviews, hearings, trials, police report review, and other substantive legal assignments.
- Participate in a rigorous training program featuring lectures from criminal justice professionals and simulation-based practicums.
- Potentially appear in court under the Student Practice Order.
- Work with BXDA's Digital Forensic Laboratory.
- Complete a substantive writing assignment that may serve as a future writing sample.
