About The Position

As a Law School Admissions Reviewer, you will be part of the team that evaluates candidates for admission to Duke Law School by reviewing written application materials, paying careful attention to academic preparation for legal study, potential for contribution to the Duke Law community, and likelihood of success in a legal career. Strong evaluative and interpersonal skills are essential, as well as the ability and willingness to learn about Duke Law's programs and culture. This is a part-time, seasonal position. Although the exact schedule varies based on the applicant pool and the needs of the Office of Admissions, it typically involves approximately twenty hours per week between September and April. Application review is conducted online, so the working hours are flexible and the work can primarily be done from home.

Requirements

  • Work requires analytical, communications and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.
  • Must Reside in North Carolina
  • Strong analytic, interpersonal, and writing skills required.
  • Computer proficiency and Internet access required.
  • Ability and willingness to acquire knowledge about Duke Law School (or pre-existing knowledge) required.

Nice To Haves

  • JD or other exposure to legal study and practice strongly preferred.
  • Experience related to selective admissions processes helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Review and assess qualifications of prospective students and their potential for successful legal study and practice based on academic records, test scores, writing samples, personal statements, extra-curricular activities and work experience, and letters of recommendation.
  • Write evaluations of candidates and make recommendations for action on applications using a holistic approach in a standardized format and following established criteria.
  • Participate in periodic admissions meetings to receive information about the development of the applicant pool and any changes in the process.
  • Receive feedback on submitted evaluations and provide input to the Office of Admissions on the ongoing process.
  • Additional responsibilities in evaluating and recruiting prospective law students may be added at the discretion of the Office of Admissions.
