This position is open to Alaska Residents only. The Law Office Assistant (LOA) I is responsible for assessing, assigning, and opening incoming court cases and CASA volunteer files. The LOA I also handles filing, checking in, and distributing all incoming materials; data entry; processing copy jobs; obtaining court copies; researching and obtaining professional client records, generally through written communication; monitoring the section staff calendar and coverage; ordering and maintaining office supplies; answering telephones; and other projects as assigned, including interfacing with other professionals and the public. The Office of Public Advocacy (OPA) provides legal advocacy and guardianship services to vulnerable Alaskans. With offices in Anchorage, Juneau, Fairbanks, Kenai, Palmer, and Bethel, OPA advocates for abused and neglected children in protective proceedings, provides public guardianship for incapacitated adults, advocacy for victims of elder fraud, attorney services for respondents in adult guardianship proceedings, for parents in child in need of aid cases, and conflict criminal cases received from the Public Defender Agency.
