About The Position

This position involves assisting with the planning and organization of library programs for detainees. The Law Library Officer is responsible for supervising detainees accessing law library services, adhering to and enforcing library policies and programs. The role includes providing readers’ advisory services based on knowledge of current reviews and bibliographies, and selecting, acquiring, and organizing library materials for convenient access. The officer will review requests and select books and other library materials according to the mental state, educational background, and special needs of inmates. Additionally, the role involves assembling book reviews for institution’s bulletins or newspapers, circulating reviews among inmates, and providing disabled or bedridden detainees with reading aids. A key aspect of the role is promoting the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed. The officer must maintain accountability of detainees and property and adhere to safety practices. Other duties may be assigned by management.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification as a detention/corrections officer.
  • Six (6) months related experience required.
  • At least two years related experience required.
  • Valid ID required.

Responsibilities

  • Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.
  • Maintain accountability of detainees and property; adhere to safety practices.
