About The Position

The Fellow provides foundational legal support to the Office of Legal Counsel through research, document preparation, compliance assistance, and policy development. The role is designed to build practical legal experience in a higher-education environment while supporting the day-to-day operations of the Office of Legal Counsel. This fellowship is time-limited and is expected to conclude within two years. The position will remain open until filled, but only applications received by October 20th will be guaranteed full consideration.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor awarded within the previous 2 years.
  • Admission to the Tennessee bar (bar passage required).
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time.

Responsibilities

  • Supports attorneys in their delivery of legal services by conducting legal research, preparing substantive legal documents and agreements, assisting with project coordination, and contributing to training initiatives.
  • Provides contract and document support, including reviewing standard agreements under attorney supervision, maintaining contract templates, assisting with contract intake and tracking, and supporting document management processes.
  • Conducts compliance and policy support activities, such as reviewing policies, benchmarking peer institutions, assisting with compliance reviews, and helping develop internal guidance materials.
  • Assists with investigations and litigation-related tasks, including gathering documents, document review, discovery organization, preparing timelines or factual summaries, supporting subpoena responses, and organizing case files.
  • Contributes to training and educational initiatives by drafting training materials, creating quick-reference guides, and assisting attorneys in delivering workshops to campus units.
