About The Position

South Carolina State University — one of the nation's historically Black colleges and universities — is looking for a dedicated Law Enforcement Officer to join the University Police Department. As a full-time Law Enforcement Officer at SC State, you'll help maintain a safe and secure campus environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Reporting through the VP of Operations division, your core responsibilities will include patrolling campus grounds, buildings, and parking areas on foot and by vehicle to deter and respond to criminal activity, responding to emergency and non-emergency calls for service, conducting preliminary investigations, and preparing accurate incident reports, enforcing South Carolina state laws, university policies, and traffic regulations on campus property, and building visible, positive relationships with the campus community through consistent engagement and professional conduct.

Requirements

  • Current South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) certification, or eligibility to obtain certification within a defined period
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid South Carolina driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgement in high-pressure situations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for accurate reporting and community interaction
  • No felony convictions and ability to pass a comprehensive background investigation
