About The Position

Reporting through the Chief of Campus Police and Public Safety, you'll be a uniformed, sworn presence across the SCSU campus — building trust with students, faculty, staff, and visitors while upholding state and federal law.

Requirements

South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) certification, or eligibility to obtain certification within the required timeframe
A valid South Carolina driver's license with a clean driving record
Demonstrated ability to de-escalate situations and communicate clearly under pressure
Sound judgment when applying law, policy, and discretion in a diverse campus environment
Commitment to community-oriented policing principles — particularly relevant to SCSU's student-centered mission
Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays

Responsibilities

Patrolling campus grounds, buildings, and parking facilities on foot and by vehicle to deter and detect criminal activity
Responding to emergency and non-emergency calls, documenting incidents thoroughly and accurately
Enforcing South Carolina criminal statutes and University policies in a fair, community-centered manner
Collaborating with local law enforcement agencies and campus departments on safety planning and incident response
