This role involves providing legal support services for criminal and civil cases to enhance efforts to combat crime and enforce immigration laws. The Law Clerk II will work with assigned attorneys and/or supervisory attorneys to determine applicable law, identify potential defenses, violations, or causes of action. The position requires a thorough understanding of federal, state, and local laws, and staying updated on new criminal and civil rules and procedures. The incumbent will analyze statutes, legislative intent, judicial precedents, agency rules and regulations, and law review articles relevant to assigned cases, including complex or unprecedented matters. This role also involves briefing attorneys on pertinent facts, issues, and case law, drafting correspondence and legal documents for attorney signatures, and drafting proposed orders for judges and magistrates.
