About The Position

Performs Quality Review of Personal Injury Non-Economic Loss claims and Wrongful Death Non-Economic Loss claims. Confirms that VCF eligibility and award determinations are consistent with VCF policies and statutory and regulatory requirements, and that they are entered correctly into the Claims Management System. Reviews details of eligibility determinations and award calculations, including, but not limited to: award letter instructions; non-economic loss awards; and economic loss awards, including offsets and data points used to calculate lost earnings, replacement services, and medical expense awards. Confirms that claimants have submitted all documentation required for payment, and that all payment documents are accurate and sufficient. Verifies there are no issues preventing payment or that require follow-up. Confirms results have been received from the FBI name check process and appropriately dispositioned; cross checks data with the VCF Fraud Checklist. Monitors claims with outstanding Missing Information Loss Calculation letters until they are resolved and an award letter can be sent. Calls claimants or legal representatives as needed to correct information on ACH forms or Client Payment Authorizations, working with the claimant/attorney to correct the document so payment can be issued. As applicable, monitors claims until a response is received from the appropriate representative for a deceased victim. Uses LexisNexis CourtLink, at the DOJ's request, to confirm the claimant does not have a prohibitive 9/11-related lawsuit. Meet established goals for quantity and quality of claims reviewed, and be able to provide status of all claims in queue.

Requirements

  • Requires Law degree, OR currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study OR undergraduate degree required with paralegal certificate and relevant work experience.
  • 0-1 years of VCF work experience or comparable experience for candidates with law degrees.
  • For candidates without law degrees, must have 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain MRPT facility credentials/authorization.
  • US Citizenship is required for MRPT facility credentials/authorization
  • Proficient user of the Government's office and network environment, including but not limited to word processing, spreadsheet, imaging and hardware systems
  • Proficient with MS Excel (intermediate user or higher), MS Access, and other Microsoft Office suite products
  • Knowledge of Government data processing environment, including automation networks, PC-based databases and other applications and internet and server-based databases and other applications
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent typing/keyboarding skills
  • Passionate about attention to detail
  • Collaborative nature, team player
  • Comfortable working in an environment with high volume inputs, outputs and deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to manage numerous complex and time-critical tasks simultaneously
