About The Position

Messiah Lifeways is a non-profit organization located in Mechanicsburg, PA, that provides a network of services for adults, 55 and better living in South Central PA. The Laundry Assistant is charged with carrying out all laundry operations, including but not limited to sorting, washing, drying, and folding. This position is also tasked with ensuring linens are distributed accurately to designated neighborhood racks, and community areas. Flexibility with the schedule, shifts picked up would be between the times of 6AM - 230PM, and every other holiday requirement.

Requirements

Strong Attention to Detail: ability to accurately sort, wash, dry and fold linens while ensuring quality and consistency.
Strong Organizational Skills: Managing and coordinating multiple neighborhood laundry.
Must read labels for proper washing instructions.
Must check with the social worker or a family member before sending items to the dry cleaners.
Must be able to operate the washers and dryers properly.
Must remember there is also a 20-pound washer that is to be taken care of.

Responsibilities

Carry out all laundry operations, including but not limited to sorting, washing, drying, and folding.
Ensure linens are distributed accurately to designated neighborhood racks, and community areas.
Always wash hands thoroughly after handling dirty laundry.
Wear gloves and gown when sorting dirty laundry.
Read labels for proper washing instructions, as many items need special washing (cold water, no bleach, etc.).
Check with the social worker or a family member before sending items to the dry cleaners.
Check the pockets of all items to be washed for items such as hearing aids or teeth, and also check for fancy pins or belts.
Operate the washers and dryers properly, ensuring correct loading (no underloading or overloading).
Fill the washers promptly when an established load is ready.
Take care of the 20-pound washer, which is used for wool items or special clothing.
