About The Position

The Laundry Assistant ensures the facility's day-to-day laundry activities are completed in accordance with federal, state, local, and facility standards, guidelines, and regulations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public
  • Must possess the willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel
  • Must be able to summarize and relate information
  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position
  • Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met
  • Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility which include a medical and physical examination
  • Must be able to relate to and work with persons who exhibit emotional instability, confusion, or at times, hostility
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 3 feet and be able to carry such weight a minimum distance of 25 feet
  • using a mechanical device, must regularly be able to push, pull, or move weight in excess of 50 pounds a distance of 300 feet
  • May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations

Responsibilities

  • Collect, sort, and weigh soiled laundry and place in designated areas
  • Wash, dry, iron, fold and distribute clean laundry
  • Ensure that equipment is cleaned and properly stored
  • Report malfunctions and breakdowns to supervisor
  • Monitor lost-and-found articles of clothing
  • Ensure resident belongings are properly labeled
  • Develop and maintain a good working rapport
  • Coordinate daily laundry services with nursing services in resident care areas
  • Appropriately use and dispose of personal protective equipment and supplies when handling infectious materials
  • Dispose of all refuse daily in accordance with procedures
  • Coordinate isolation procedures with nursing services
  • Follow established ergonomic policies and procedures for lifting, repetitive tasks, and the use of safety equipment and supplies
  • Ensure resident rights are protected and complaints are reported
  • Maintaining a safe environment for all residents and staff
