About The Position

The Laundry Assistant ensures the facility's day-to-day laundry activities are completed in accordance with federal, state, local, and facility standards, guidelines, and regulations.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED preferred
Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public
Must possess the willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel
Must be able to summarize and relate information
Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday
Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position
Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met
Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility which include a medical and physical examination
Must be able to relate to and work with persons who exhibit emotional instability, confusion, or at times, hostility
Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 3 feet and be able to carry such weight a minimum distance of 25 feet
using a mechanical device, must regularly be able to push, pull, or move weight in excess of 50 pounds a distance of 300 feet
May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations

Responsibilities

Collect, sort, and weigh soiled laundry and place in designated areas
Wash, dry, iron, fold and distribute clean laundry
Ensure that equipment is cleaned and properly stored
Report malfunctions and breakdowns to supervisor
Monitor lost-and-found articles of clothing
Ensure resident belongings are properly labeled
Develop and maintain a good working rapport
Coordinate daily laundry services with nursing services in resident care areas
Appropriately use and dispose of personal protective equipment and supplies when handling infectious materials
Dispose of all refuse daily in accordance with procedures
Coordinate isolation procedures with nursing services
Follow established ergonomic policies and procedures for lifting, repetitive tasks, and the use of safety equipment and supplies
Ensure resident rights are protected and complaints are reported
Maintaining a safe environment for all residents and staff
