About The Position

The Laundry Aide is responsible for performing all assigned tasks in the laundry room, including sorting soiled linen, loading/unloading washers and dryers, ironing, folding laundry, transferring processed laundry to storage carts and linen closets, receiving textiles, and potentially repairing and sewing clothes. This role requires the ability to handle heavy lifting, pushing, pulling, and repetitive motions while standing for extended periods. The position involves potential exposure to blood or body fluids.

Requirements

  • High School graduate preferred
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
  • Must be able to follow written and oral directions
  • Must be trustworthy and possess tolerance for all individuals
  • Must be able to communicate with other departments
  • Must be able to meet the physical and mental demands of the position
  • Must be able to work with little or no supervision
  • Daily heavy lifting, pushing, pulling and moving of a variety of things
  • Standing and doing repetitive motion for 3-5 hours per 8-hour shift
  • Ability to lift 35-50 lbs.
  • Ability to push laundry carts that weigh up to 365 lbs.
  • Tasks involve potential and/or direct exposure to blood or body fluids

  • Specific staff that know how to sew may be assigned to repairing and sewing clothes.

Responsibilities

  • Sort all dirty linen that comes down to the laundry department, involving lifting bags up to 35lbs, tearing them open, emptying contents, and sorting into individual linen buckets.
  • Roll loaded carts onto the laundry scale for weight measurement after sorting.
  • Load and unload washers and dryers, which involves bending, lifting, and applying push/pull force.
  • Iron residents' personal clothing and other necessary items.
  • Fold laundry for a significant portion of the shift, involving unloading dryers, transferring items to buckets and tables, and extensive bimanual handling.
  • Transfer folded linen to linen storage carts.
  • Deliver linen to linen closets on both floors, spa areas, resident rooms, the Restorative Department, and the Beauty Shop using PVC carts.
  • Move new linen from delivery pallets to a cart within the soiled linen room.
  • Repair and sew clothes as needed (assigned to specific staff).
