About The Position

The Laundry Aide is responsible for performing all assigned tasks in the laundry room, including sorting soiled linen, loading/unloading washers and dryers, ironing, folding laundry, transferring processed laundry to storage carts and linen closets, receiving textiles, and potentially repairing and sewing clothes. This role requires the ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the position, including heavy lifting, pushing, pulling, and standing for extended periods. Staff are expected to be trustworthy, tolerant, and able to communicate with other departments. Schedules may change and work assignments may be added without prior notice. All laundry staff will be trained and assessed in assigned tasks and are subject to annual performance reviews.

  • Able to push laundry carts that weigh up to 365 lbs.
  • Tasks assigned to this position involve potential and/or direct exposure to blood or body fluids

  • Specific staff that know how to sew may be assigned to repairing and sewing clothes.

Responsibilities

  • Sort all dirty linen that comes down to the laundry department, including lifting bags up to 35lbs, tearing them open, emptying contents, and sorting into individual linen buckets.
  • Roll loaded carts onto the laundry scale for weight measurement (carts can weigh as much as 330 lbs).
  • Load/unload front-loading washers, which requires approximately 30 bending and lifting motions ranging from 7” to 37” above the floor, with a 25lb push/pull force to move buckets and a 28” extension of reach.
  • Remove wet laundry from washers using up to 40lbs of pulling force.
  • Iron residents’ personal clothing and other necessary items using a handheld, 2lb iron on a 35” high ironing board.
  • Fold laundry for approximately 40%-60% of the shift, involving unloading linen from dryers, placing it in buckets, and folding on a table.
  • Transfer folded linen to linen storage carts or use transfer carts, with a push/pull force of up to 30lbs.
  • Deliver linen to linen closets on each hall, spa areas, resident room closets/wardrobes, the Restorative Department, and the Beauty Shop using PVC carts.
  • Walk approximately over 500’ with a personal linen cart starting at full weight while delivering to resident closets.
  • Walk approximately 500’, twice daily with a linen cart starting at full weight while delivering to hallway closets and spas.
  • Move new linen from delivery pallets to a cart within the soiled linen room.
  • Repair and sew clothes as needed (assigned to specific staff who know how to sew).
  • Use the assisted tabletop labeler.
  • Attend and participate in scheduled training and educational classes.
  • Attend and complete monthly mandatory in-services and online education assignments.
