About The Position

The Laundry Aide is responsible for performing all assigned tasks in the laundry room, including sorting soiled linen, loading and unloading washers and dryers, ironing, folding laundry, transferring processed laundry to storage carts and linen closets, receiving textiles, and repairing and sewing clothes as needed. This role requires the ability to handle repetitive tasks, heavy lifting, pushing, pulling, and standing for extended periods. The position involves direct exposure to blood or body fluids and requires adherence to all safety protocols and training.

  • Daily heavy lifting, pushing, pulling and moving of a variety of things.
  • Standing and doing repetitive motion for 3-5 hours per 8-hour shift.
  • Able to lift 35-50 lbs.
  • Able to push laundry carts that weigh up to 365 lbs.
  • Tasks assigned to this position involve potential and/or direct exposure to blood or body fluids.

  • Specific staff that know how to sew may be assigned to repairing and sewing clothes.

Responsibilities

  • Sort all dirty linen that comes down to the laundry department, including lifting bags up to 35lbs, tearing them open, emptying contents, and sorting into individual linen buckets.
  • Roll loaded carts onto the laundry scale for weight measurement, with carts weighing as much as 330 lbs.
  • Load and unload front-loading washers and dryers, involving bending, lifting, and applying push/pull force.
  • Iron residents' personal clothing and other necessary items.
  • Fold laundry for approximately 40%-60% of the shift, involving unloading linen from dryers, transferring to buckets and tables, and extensive bimanual handling.
  • Transfer folded linen to linen storage carts, which may involve pushing/pulling carts up to 30lbs and reaching shelves up to 65 inches high.
  • Deliver linen to linen closets on both floors, spa areas, resident room closets/wardrobes, the Restorative Department, and the Beauty Shop, walking approximately over 500' with a personal linen cart.
  • Move new linen from delivery pallets to a cart within the soiled linen room.
  • Repair and sew clothes as needed, a task performed by specific staff who know how to sew.
  • Use the assisted tabletop labeler.
  • Attend and participate in scheduled training and educational classes.
  • Attend and complete monthly mandatory in-services and online education assignments.
