About The Position

Anchor Fabrication is seeking a skilled Lathe Set Up/Operator to join their team in Walnut, MS. This full-time position involves reading and interpreting blueprints, setting up and operating lathe machines, and ensuring the quality of finished workpieces. The role requires precision, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain and troubleshoot machinery. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience as a lathe machinist and a strong understanding of metal properties and machining processes.

Requirements

  • At least two years proven work experience as a lathe machinist
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and technical drawings
  • Knowledge of the properties of metal and other materials
  • Experience working with CNC machines
  • Proficiency with precision measuring tools and equipment
  • Excellent manual dexterity, accuracy and attention to detail
  • A high school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training is a plus
  • Ability to write reports in the English language
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of supervisors and/or managers in the English language
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions and percentages
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardizations exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
  • Punctual and dependable attendance record

Responsibilities

  • Reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and diagrams to understand the specifications of a part to be created or repaired
  • Setting up, adjusting and operating lathe machines to carry out machining operations
  • Checking finished workpieces to ensure they meet specifications, using precision measuring tools such as micrometers and gauges
  • Maintaining and cleaning lathes and other machinery to ensure their longevity and functionality
  • Monitoring machining processes to prevent machine malfunctions and production errors
  • Replacing worn lathe cutting tools and sharpening dull cutting tools
  • Adjusting machine feed and speed if machines malfunction
  • Developing templates and models for new or modified parts
  • Communicating with team members and supervisors to coordinate work and resolve machining or production issues
