About The Position

This role involves setting up and operating Fiber optic & CO2 lasers with material towers. The operator will be responsible for loading material, managing CNC programs, creating nests in PEP software, and collaborating with the engineering team. Key duties include performing program edits, following production schedules, adjusting the beam delivery system, inspecting parts, recording production data, and maintaining equipment. The position also requires adherence to safety protocols, cleaning of the work area, and periodic truck loading/unloading.

Requirements

  • Knowledge & ability to efficiently use ERP system.
  • Ability to use automation within the department, material towers, shuttles, over under carts.
  • Frequent & sustained walking.
  • Bending frequently.
  • Lift-carry up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 1 year running a laser or comparable machine
  • Effective communication skills
  • Detail oriented.
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Must have or be able to obtain a forklift operator’s license.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Ability to perform advanced inspections.
  • Working knowledge of computer systems
  • Good working knowledge of various materials, carbon, stainless galvanized, copper etc. & how to differentiate.
  • Ability to measure using precision measuring equipment, Mic, Caliper, Pin Gages, Depth gage.

Responsibilities

  • Set up & operate Fiber optic & CO2 lasers with material towers.
  • Load required material into material towers.
  • Upload/Download CNC programs to the machine.
  • Create single & multi part nests in PEP software for production.
  • Interact with engineering team to resolve any programming issues or drop part profiles into Pep.
  • Perform program edits as needed.
  • Follow daily shop load & priorities given by manager.
  • Make necessary adjustments to the external beam delivery system (Beam/Tip Alignment, Focal Point Adjustment, Optics Handling and Cleaning).
  • Inspect first part & at required intervals to insure proper cutting condition.
  • Properly record production into ERP system. Ensure material is backflushing properly & move & record final WIP locations.
  • Perform cycle counts after jobs have been completed.
  • Follow safety requirements & understand the danger zones within the environment.
  • Unload, sort, and inspect cut parts as they are removed from laser.
  • Clean & replace grates, along with empty slug drawers.
  • Empty & change Donaldson air filter system as needed.
  • Maintain proper stock levels in storage racks.
  • Perform PMs on a weekly basis, or sooner if needed.
  • Periodically loads & unloads trucks with raw material.
  • Keep GEMBA boards updated and present during daily GEMBA walk.
