About The Position

The Laser Operator is responsible for performing various operations as assigned by the Plant Manager, with engineering support as needed. This role involves following instructions from C.A.D. and job cards, utilizing start-up and shutdown procedures, and ensuring the quality of produced parts. The operator will manage material handling, including obtaining materials from storage and verifying machine controls. They will also be responsible for post-production tasks such as removing parts, stacking/boxing, returning sheets to inventory, and disposing of scrap. Compliance with quality inspection procedures, safety protocols, and maintaining a clean work area are essential. The role also includes assisting the Laser Safety Officer and managing laser gas supplies.

Requirements

  • Skilled in basic blueprint reading, shop math, and use of standard gauges and measuring devices.
  • Skilled in use of mechanical hand tools and equipment setting devices (mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical).
  • Has normal to above normal communication skills.
  • Has dexterity and adroitness to proficiently perform the operations.
  • Has basic computer skills.

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform each operation as assigned by Plant Manager, with engineering support as required, and instructed by C.A.D. and the job card, utilizing the start-up and shutdown procedures.
  • Obtain the proper material from storage or through direct contact with shear operator.
  • Verify that all controls and features are operating as specified for each job number (machine controls and cylinder controls).
  • Evaluate the quality of initial run parts and fine tune the parameters as necessary.
  • As product is produced, remove the parts, partial sheets, and scrap.
  • Stack or box the parts, return sheets to inventory, and dispose of scrap in proper containers.
  • Comply with inspection frequency and documentation as described in the quality specifications.
  • Use and understand the necessary company standard procedures such as on Quality, Safety, and Hazards, and the Employee Handbook.
  • Assist the Laser Safety Officer in complying with laser safety procedures.
  • Maintain laser gas supplies by ordering or informing the Engineer when levels need replenished, including calling for return of empty cylinders.
  • Maintain storage work areas in neat and orderly condition and change gas cylinders per engineering instructions.
  • Occasionally perform other associated tasks or operate other production equipment as assigned by the Plant Manager.
  • Keep the machine and work area clean and orderly.
