Laser Operator
About The Position
The Laser Operator assists in the fabrication of sheet metal parts and develops the necessary skills to operate a Laser, focusing on safety, quality, and efficiency. This role involves maintaining a safe and clean work area, potentially training new employees, and directing laser helpers. The operator is responsible for completing production and quality documentation, performing quality checks using engineering prints, tape measures, protractors, and thickness gauges, and maintaining acceptable production rates. The position also requires implementing Lean and 5S principles and working independently.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- Basic shop math (i.e. add/subtract/divide/multiply, whole numbers and fractions)
- Read a tape measure to within 1/16”
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal
- Minimum 1-year Evapco Sheet Metal experience required.
- Able to read and understand all engineering prints related to the process.
- Able to trouble shoot and solve problems related to the process.
- Able to be recertified as needed.
Nice To Haves
- A general understanding of common hand tools is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe and clean work area.
- Conduct hands-on training for new employees.
- Give direction to Laser helper.
- Proficiently complete all production and quality documentation.
- Perform quality checks to ensure materials, parts and workmanship are compliant with engineering requirements and production expectations using engineering prints, tape measurer, protractor, and thickness gauge wheel.
- Maintain acceptable production rates within the skill level, by meeting or exceeding efficiency goals.
- Implement Lean and 5s in your areas.
- Operate overhead lifting cranes and jib booms safely.
- Assist in other areas of the shop when required.
- Mentor lesser experienced operators – leading by example.
