About The Position

Metalcraft of Mayville is seeking a Laser Operator to join our manufacturing team. Reporting to the First Operations Manager, this position is responsible for the setup and operation of Amada and Mitsubishi NC/NCL lasers and Messer Plasma equipment in a fast-paced, just-in-time fabrication environment. The Laser Operator will set up equipment, load materials, monitor cutting operations, inspect completed parts, and make adjustments to ensure quality and production standards are met.

Requirements

  • Previous laser cutting, CNC machine operation, or similar manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Experience operating Amada or Mitsubishi laser equipment is a plus.
  • Strong mechanical and technical aptitude.
  • Basic understanding of G-code and M-code.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and production specifications.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to perform basic shop math.
  • Experience with dimensional measuring and ability to learn precision measurement tools.
  • Ability to safely operate a forklift.
  • Previous overhead crane experience is preferred.
  • Strong attention to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic machine, program, and production issues.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work efficiently.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and coordinate with other departments.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience operating Amada or Mitsubishi laser equipment.
  • Previous overhead crane experience.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate Amada and Mitsubishi NC/NCL laser cutting equipment and Messer Plasma equipment.
  • Verify material type and thickness for accuracy before loading and processing.
  • Load raw materials and unload completed parts using appropriate material-handling equipment.
  • De-nest completed parts and remove laser oxide or other residue as needed.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, and production specifications.
  • Monitor cutting operations and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality.
  • Identify and troubleshoot basic machine alignment, cut condition, and program issues.
  • Apply a basic understanding of G-code and M-code when troubleshooting or making machine adjustments.
  • Inspect and measure completed parts to verify conformance with specifications.
  • Use gauges and precision measuring equipment to ensure dimensional accuracy.
  • Complete assigned work according to established production, quality, and efficiency standards.
  • Record production time and completed work using the company’s computer-based data collection system.
  • Safely operate forklifts and overhead cranes to move raw materials and completed work.
  • Maintain equipment performance logs and report maintenance concerns or deficiencies.
  • Perform operator-level preventive maintenance on assigned equipment.
  • Cross-train on multiple laser and plasma platforms and production cells.
  • Assist with training other operators on equipment setup and operation as experience allows.
  • Identify and report material, production, equipment, or quality issues.
  • Assist other operators or production areas as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Follow all company and plant safety procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
