About The Position

This role is responsible for setting up and operating an individual Large CNC machine tool. The position involves working with a variety of Large CNC machine tools including mills, horizontal or vertical lathes, machining centers, and horizontal boring bars. The operator will use standard equipment for the machine tool, appropriate measuring instruments, blueprints, process documents, and hand tools. Materials handled include ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The operator receives assignments, drawings, process documents, program tapes, manuscripts, and/or verbal instructions from their assigned supervisor, typically a team leader or process engineer. The role does not involve supervision of others.

Requirements

  • Ability to set up and operate Large CNC machine tools (mills, horizontal or vertical lathe, machining center, horizontal boring bar).
  • Proficiency with fixtures, tools, inserts, chucks, heads, cutters, etc.
  • Skill in using measuring instruments such as gages, micrometers, indicators.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and process documents.
  • Familiarity with standard work instructions and machine requirements.
  • Ability to establish reference points and set offsets.
  • Capability to make trial runs and prove out tapes.
  • Ability to perform work to specified tolerances.
  • Willingness to perform miscellaneous duties like deburring and checking work.
  • Ability to maintain work files, program files, fixtures, and tooling.
  • Capacity to keep machines clean and perform routine maintenance.
  • Ability to handle medium weight materials by hand and heavier materials by hoist or crane.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with preset tools.
  • Experience with deburring.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate an individual Large CNC machine tool.

  • May be required to perform other miscellaneous duties such as deburring, checking work, or presetting tools during machine cycle.
  • Maintain standard work files, program files, fixtures, tooling, etc.
  • Keep machine clean and perform daily routine maintenance checks.
  • Handle medium weight materials by hand and heavier materials by hoist or crane.
