About The Position

This role involves setting up and operating an individual Large CNC machine tool. The operator will work with various Large CNC machine tools including mills, horizontal or vertical lathes, machining centers, and horizontal boring bars. The job requires working with ferrous and non-ferrous metals and adhering to tolerances indicated on drawings and process documents. The position reports to an assigned supervisor, typically a team leader or process engineer, and exercises no direction over others. Responsibilities include setting up machines, establishing reference points, setting offsets, making trial runs, and performing routine maintenance. The operator will handle materials by hand or using a hoist or crane.

Requirements

  • Ability to set up machines using standard work instructions and machine requirements.
  • Proficiency in establishing reference points and setting offsets.
  • Skill in making trial runs or proving out tapes.
  • Ability to perform work to specified tolerances.
  • Capability to maintain standard work files, program files, fixtures, and tooling.
  • Ability to keep machines clean and perform routine maintenance.
  • Physical ability to handle medium weight materials by hand and heavier materials by hoist or crane.
  • Understanding of blueprints and process documents.
  • Familiarity with standard equipment for individual machine tools, including fixtures, tools, inserts, chucks, heads, cutters, etc.
  • Proficiency with appropriate measuring instruments such as gages, micrometers, and indicators.
  • Ability to use hand tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Presetting tools during machine cycle.
  • Performing miscellaneous duties such as deburring or checking work.
