Lapping Surface Grind Machine Operator
About The Position
The Lapping/Surface Grind Machine Operator operates lapping and surface-grinding machines to process ceramic materials. The role requires attention to detail and precise adherence to process requirements and documentation while working safely in a clean environment. The operator interprets customer drawings and written instructions, sets up and operates equipment, maintains close tolerances, and inspects work to verify quality and specifications. The position is onsite in Poway, California, on the second shift from 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM. Fralock states that the position requires access to ITAR- or EAR-controlled information, so the successful candidate must meet the applicable definition of a U.S. person. Employment offers are contingent on clear background-check results.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 3 years of lapping or machining experience in a manufacturing environment.
- At least 3 years of surface-grinding experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Sound judgment and good organizational skills.
- Ability to interpret instructions provided in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Solid math skills, including measuring and keeping count records.
- Ability to read and follow technical drawings and diagrammed instructions.
- Commitment to safety.
- Must qualify as a U.S. person under ITAR or EAR requirements.

Responsibilities
- Follow written instructions, including interpreting customer drawings.
- Plan, set up, and operate single-side Lapmaster lapping machines.
- Plan, set up, and operate a surface grinder machine.
- Work with the Process Engineer to troubleshoot and resolve issues in a timely manner.
- Work with the Process Engineer to assist with improving lapping and surface-grinding operations and their efficiency.
- Maintain close tolerances for size, flatness, finish, and other specifications on a variety of parts.
- Follow all safety procedures and requirements.
- Report safety or maintenance concerns to a supervisor or management immediately.
- Keep work areas clean and organized.
- Inspect first articles produced in-process to ensure specifications and quality requirements are met.
- Maintain a high standard of quality and workmanship.
