About The Position

The Lapel Clerk checks library materials in and out, provides reference assistance, issues library cards, updates customer records, handles fee transactions, and shelves library materials. This role involves using the integrated library system (ILS) to manage library materials and customer records, providing reference assistance via multiple channels, resolving customer issues, processing payments, maintaining branch equipment and supplies, organizing and shelving materials, ensuring a safe and neat environment, promoting library programs, creating displays, assisting with meeting room reservations, and adhering to all library policies and procedures. The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, 0-2 years of relevant experience, and a valid driver's license with reliable transportation.

  • 0 to 2 years of relevant experience is preferred.
  • A valid driver's license, automobile insurance, and reliable personal transportation is required.
  • Ability to work with and maintain confidential information.
  • Ability to arrange materials in proper order.
  • Skill in customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Check library materials in and out using the integrated library system (ILS).
  • Process borrower cards and maintain borrower records.
  • Determine the status of library materials.
  • Maintain detailed records of customers’ reading interests and special requests.
  • Provide reference assistance in person, by phone, and through email.
  • Perform reader’s advisory services and locate materials and resources for customers.
  • Make referrals as appropriate and handle customer material requests.
  • Resolve problems with fees, library cards, and lost and overdue materials.
  • Accept cash and credit payments for customer fees and record payments.
  • Share responsibility of counting money in cash drawer and balancing at closing time.
  • Assist in maintaining branch equipment and supplies.
  • Organize returned materials on carts for shelving.
  • Change the status of items, perform assigned shelf reading, and reorganize stacks as needed.
  • Assist in keeping safe, orderly, and neat environments in all public and staff areas.
  • Promote library programs and services during customer interactions.
  • Assist in creating displays of materials to attract customers’ attention.
  • Assist with Meeting room reservations.
  • Comply with Anderson Public Library’s policies, procedures, rules, guidelines, requirements, standards, principles, and practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
