About The Position

The Language Immersion Teacher is responsible for conducting childcare services and activities fully immersed in the Keres language. The Language Immersion Teacher will work collaboratively with staff and teacher assistants offering daily activities and culturally relevant activities that are appropriate for the learning space. The Language Immersion Teacher will be responsible for monitoring their students' development and levels of proficiency within the Keres language to determine areas of growth and where more challenges might be needed. The Language Immersion Teacher will be responsible for communicating these observations and learning supports to parents and teacher assistants to ensure learning continuity and consistency. The Language Immersion Teacher will be responsible for classroom lesson planning and coordination of classroom activities, outdoor activities, field trips, and family engagement events. All the activities surrounding language immersion are to enhance the child's development and fluency of the Keres language and culture. The Language Immersion Teacher will ultimately provide high-quality childcare services for children aged 8 weeks to 13 years of age, in accordance with Departmental, Federal & Tribal standards, regulations and laws.

Requirements

  • Must be an enrolled tribal member of Santo Domingo Pueblo.
  • CDA or Higher Degree in Early Childhood Education, with a minimum of 2 years of experience as a childcare provider and/or teaching; OR a combination of some education and 2 years' experience in early childhood education and willingness to obtain CDA.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills focus efforts to meet the goals and objectives of children and parents, and CCDF requirements.
  • Bilingual in the English and Keres language.
  • Experience and knowledge in Kewa culture and proper protocols.
  • Must obtain CPR/First Aid Certification and complete all required Health and Safety Training within 3 months of hire.
  • Valid driver's license with ability to meet Santo Domingo Pueblo liability insurance requirements and maintain eligibility for insurance.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and new hire drug screening.
