About The Position

The Métis Nation–Saskatchewan Ministry of Language and Identity is seeking a strong team player, committed to quality service to carry out objectives of the Department of Culture, Heritage, and Language and to provide a range of services as a Language & Identity Program Coordinator.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, Business, Administration, Linguistics, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Experience working with Indigenous, including Métis, clients.
  • Strong communication skills including speaking, writing, and active listening skills.
  • Strong computer skills (including Microsoft Word, Excel, database software, electronic communication tools such as Microsoft Outlook).
  • Strong time-management skills along with the ability to prioritize daily tasks, organizational skills, and effective decision-making abilities.
  • Willingness to work within a team environment.
  • Exceptional written and oral communications skills.
  • Excellent work attendance.
  • Sound problem solving and decision-making skills as well as attention to detail.
  • Interpersonal skills and an ability to demonstrate de-escalation and conflict resolution in difficult situations.
  • A valid Saskatchewan driver’s license and/or access to reliable transportation to our downtown location would be required.
  • The successful candidate must undergo a Criminal Record Check.

  • The ability to understand or speak the Michif Language is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Lead MN–S Language and Identity initiatives, focusing on the development of Elders' supports, relationship building, communication, protocols, and a comprehensive Elders portfolio.
  • Develop, coordinate, and maintain culturally-based programs and services in alignment with MN–S objectives, including planning and supporting the creation of cultural and language resources in consultation with Elders across diverse regions.
  • Establish and manage interministerial resources by collaborating with other MN–S departments and ministries, as well as external partners, to enhance culture and language programs.
  • Identify and pursue external funding opportunities to support culture, language, and early learning initiatives.
  • Guide and support language and early learning teams in planning, developing, and implementing culturally informed programs that align with MN–S values.
  • Prepare and provide resources, documentation, and educational materials for various cultural and language projects, ensuring alignment with departmental and provincial requirements.
  • Design and prepare program content, determining suitable formats and coordinating the distribution of materials for optimal resource accessibility and usage.
  • Coordinate and facilitate workshops or conferences, engaging resource personnel to deliver educational and culturally relevant sessions.
  • Document, evaluate, and maintain a comprehensive catalog of cultural and educational resources for distribution and use across MN–S programs.
  • Draft briefing notes and reports to support MN–S departmental discussions, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting on early learning and education initiatives.
  • Establish, evaluate, and maintain partnerships with early learning and education service providers across Saskatchewan, promoting culturally relevant and effective educational practices.
  • Advise on the implementation of new or existing programs and research outcomes to ensure program success and alignment with MN–S strategic goals.
  • Represent MN–S on committees, providing expertise in cultural, heritage, and language matters as required.
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Manager of Culture & Heritage to support organizational goals and objectives.
