About The Position

The YouthBuild Evening School Language Arts Teacher is creative, flexible, and passionate about supporting students who are balancing school, work, and adult responsibilities. This educator will play a key role in designing and delivering an engaging literacy program for the YouthBuild Evening School Program launching in Fall 2026. During the 2026–2027 planning year, this teacher will collaborate with school leadership to adapt existing curriculum, design course pacing for an evening schedule, and help prepare for program launch. Once the program begins, the teacher will provide high-quality, student-centered instruction in a part-time evening setting and serve as a mentor to a small cohort of students, supporting their academic progress, persistence, and graduation goals.

Nice To Haves

  • A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university; Master’s Degree strongly preferred
  • Three to five years’ teaching experience, preferred

Responsibilities

  • Create a positive learning environment built on strong relationships with students
  • Design student-centered units and lessons that develop transferable. competencies and culminate with “demonstrations” (projects) that showcase students’ original work
  • Use instructional strategies that support student thinking and voice, creating connection before content
  • Develop learning experiences that emphasize soft skills like collaboration, reflection and revision
  • Collaborate with the specialized services team to ensure student success, by providing teacher input, attending IEP meetings and ensuring all students receive accommodations and modifications per their students’ IEPs and/or English language needs
  • Track student progress, give frequent actionable feedback to students and communicate student progress to the greater community through PowerSchool
  • Work in interdepartmental teams to support the success of a group of students as they move through our rigorous program
  • Facilitate one section of independent study hall per day, providing a structured, supportive environment where students can focus on academic tasks, access guidance as needed, and develop effective study habits while ensuring a quiet and productive atmosphere
  • Participate in a highly collaborative, fluid school culture that requires strong interpersonal skills and flexibility
  • Provide mentorship to a cohort of 4–5 students, offering consistent academic and personal support to help them stay on track toward meeting graduation requirements
  • Perform other duties, as assigned by the Evening School Principal
