About The Position

The Evening School Culinary Instructor prepares students for entry level employment in the food service industry while helping them build professional skills and career readiness. Students participate in hands-on culinary training, industry certification preparation, and real world learning experiences. This role supports students who are balancing work and life responsibilities and requires strong relationship building, flexibility, and a commitment to helping students persist and graduate.

Nice To Haves

  • Teaching, training, or coaching experience preferred
  • ServSafe certification or ability to obtain certification preferred
  • Experience working with opportunity youth or alternative education settings
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent industry experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver hands on culinary instruction in a commercial kitchen setting
  • Teach food safety, kitchen operations, and industry expectations
  • Prepare students for ServSafe Food Handler and Manager certifications
  • Assess student skill development and provide frequent feedback
  • Maintain kitchen safety, organization, and inventory systems
  • Coordinate guest chefs, field experiences, and industry exposure opportunities
  • Track student progress, give frequent actionable feedback to students and communicate student progress to the greater community through PowerSchool
  • Facilitate one section of independent study hall per day, providing a structured, supportive environment where students can focus on academic tasks, access guidance as needed, and develop effective study habits while ensuring a quiet and productive atmosphere
  • Provide mentorship to a cohort of 4–5 students, offering consistent academic and personal support to help them stay on track toward meeting graduation requirements
  • Contribute to a collaborative startup culture and continuous improvement of the Evening School Program
  • Perform other duties, as assigned by the Evening School Principal
