About The Position

The Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) is seeking a Language Access Liaison to join the Department of Language Access in southwestern Kentucky, based in Warren County. The AOC is the operational arm of the judicial branch, employing nearly 3,300 personnel to support 406 elected justices, judges, and circuit court clerks. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Translation and/or Interpretation or Related Field.
  • 3 Years of Specialized Experience in the Field of Court Interpreting.
  • Must possess state court interpreter certification and have been approved to interpret in judicial proceedings in the state of Kentucky.
  • Must possess a valid Kentucky driver’s license and be willing to travel as needed.
  • Must possess administrative, supervisory, or managerial experience.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Possess the ability to exercise mature judgment.
  • Demonstrate the ability to provide leadership and negotiate with stakeholders at all levels of the judicial system.
  • Adept at recognizing problems, analyzing causes, and recommending and implementing practical solutions.
  • Self-starter, mature, highly organized, and poised.
  • Demonstrate initiative, possess tact and good judgment.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference given to candidates with advanced degrees related to the field of translation and interpretation.
  • Advanced accreditation as an interpreter and/or translator highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Providing approved language access services, including onsite interpretation, telephonic interpretation, and video remote interpretation (VRI), within all assigned judicial districts.
  • Maintaining, analyzing, preparing, and submitting quarterly and annual reports to OLA on court interpreter usage and other statistics.
  • Accurately reporting all in-court and VRI events within assigned districts and inputting information into the proper databases.
  • Working with telecommunications and audio-visual specialists to maintain an accurate inventory of interpreting equipment and ensure proper installation and operation, including VRI equipment.
  • Assisting courts and OLA manager with interpreting and translation program improvements.
  • Assisting in recruiting, training, and certifying new interpreters, which may include administering exams and providing direct instruction.
  • Supporting the OLA manager in administering the KY AOC court interpreting certification process.
  • Assisting with personnel matters and recommending disciplinary actions to the OLA manager.
  • Keeping justice partners, staff interpreters, and contractors informed of OLA policy or procedure updates.
  • Supporting the office of translation services, including providing direct translation services and editing completed translations.
  • Performing other duties and special assignments as required.
